Seth Rogen voiced him in the first movie and is eager to return, yet he’s completely absent from the trailer. It’s especially odd considering there’s been talk of a potential Donkey Kong spin-off film! It definitely left me wondering what’s going on with that character.
We haven’t heard much about the rumored movie since last summer, but a recent rumor suggests it might be released sooner than expected. It seems a video game based on Donkey Kong is still being developed and could have a release date announced soon.

If the rumors are correct, Nintendo fans have something exciting to look forward to! Assuming movie release dates stay as planned (which isn’t always the case), we could see a new Nintendo movie in theaters for three years in a row. We already know The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is coming in 2026, followed by The Legend of Zelda in 2027, and a Donkey Kong movie would be a fantastic addition to that lineup.

Okay, so we don’t know the full story for a potential Donkey Kong movie yet, but I’m picturing something that draws heavily from the games we all know and love. The Super Mario Bros. Movie already gave us a taste, bringing in characters like Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky Kong – and honestly, there’s a whole jungle full of possibilities beyond those guys that they could explore!

As a big Donkey Kong fan, I’d love to see King K. Rool as the villain in a movie! He’s always been the Kong family’s biggest enemy, even before he started battling Mario. The games are usually about DK and his crew protecting Kong Island from K. Rool and his henchmen, and I’m hoping the movie will follow that same awesome formula!
Honestly, I imagine this movie would be very similar to the Super Mario Bros. film, and that might be why Nintendo and Universal are being careful about how they present them. Right now, we’re just guessing, as there’s been no official announcement about a Donkey Kong movie. But if it happens, I’ll be the first to buy a ticket – and hopefully a banana-shaped popcorn bucket!
I’m still eagerly watching for any news about the movie, and I can’t wait to finally see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie when it comes out on April 3rd! I’m secretly hoping they’ll sneak a little teaser for a Donkey Kong game after the credits – that would be amazing and definitely make my day.
