I Tried King of the Hill’s Alamo Beer & It’s Perfect for Hank (I Tell You What)

The television show “King of the Hill” has unveiled a genuine, real-world version of Alamo Beer, which I had the chance to taste before the upcoming Hulu revival. In a short while, Hulu will be airing a fresh wave of episodes from this classic series. This new adaptation is bringing about significant alterations compared to the original, with the characters appearing to have aged approximately ten years since their last Fox appearance. However, there are certain aspects of each character that remain fairly consistent. For instance, Hank continues to be fond of Alamo Beer.

The classic television series “King of the Hill” revolves around Hank and his friends’ enduring affection for Alamo Beer, which they have been drinking copiously in the alley for quite some time. This tradition is expected to persist in the show’s revival, and in response, the Alamo Beer Company from San Antonio, Texas has launched an authentic Alamo Beer modeled after the one featured in the animated series, marking its return on Hulu. Being a resident of San Antonio myself, I had the opportunity to taste it, and it’s a beer that truly fits Hank’s style – straightforward, with minimal fuss or innovative twists. It’s designed for you to drink plenty of it during afternoons.

What to Know for King of the Hill’s Alamo Beer

At first glance, it’s evident that the official Alamo Beer Co.’s “King of the Hill” beer closely mirrors the animated version of the beer. The can design resembles the beer itself and catches your eye right away when you see it in person. Most of the legal and ingredient details are tucked away at the back, allowing fans to proudly display the can even after consumption without any major concerns. With an alcohol content of 4.4%, it’s available for $9.99 USD for a six-pack at H-E-B (a popular grocery store in Texas). While this is reasonably priced compared to some beers, you might need to search through multiple stores in town to find the pack.

The flavor of the beer is quite ordinary, neither elegant nor boasting any unique taste profile. It’s similar to any other beer you might come across, and it carries a typical bitter note that’s characteristic of brands like Budweiser or Coors Light. To put it simply, one could refer to it as an “alley beer.” This term may seem negative, but it aligns perfectly with the kind of beer Hank enjoys. Hank and his friends are huge fans of Alamo, so much so that they’ve overindulged on it once when they managed to get some from Mexico. Hank isn’t into fancy or extravagant beers; he prefers simplicity in his brew.

He prefers a beer that consistently tastes the same each time he drinks it, and often enjoys consuming large amounts of it almost every afternoon with his friends in an alley. This type of beer is similar to the real-life version of Alamo Beer. It’s a beer where you can drink one or two without much change in flavor, but eventually find yourself finishing off that entire six pack during a warm afternoon spent socializing with friends. On a particularly lively night, I could imagine drinking more than just the six pack. As of now, the official Alamo Beer is only available in San Antonio, Austin, and other regional areas in Texas.

What to Know for King of the Hill’s New Revival

Starting August 4th, “King of the Hill” Season 14 will premiere simultaneously on Hulu and Disney+. The new season consists of ten episodes that will be available to stream all at once. In this revival, every character has aged at least a decade since the end of the original series. The original voice actors, including Kathy Najimy, Stephen Root, Pamela Adlon, Lauren Tom, and Jonathan Joss (who voiced John Redcorn), will reprise their roles. Remarkably, Joss was able to record his lines before his passing.

I’m here observing the return of Johnny Hardwick, Dale Gribble’s original voice actor, in a few episodes before his unfortunate passing. However, moving forward, Toby Huss will take over the role. Joining the voice cast for the first time are some fresh faces and characters. Among them is Keith David as Brian Robertson, who has been tending to Hank’s house during their time in Saudi Arabia. Also new is Anthony “Citric” Campos as Emilio, a colleague of Bobby at his latest restaurant in Dallas. Additionally, we have some changes within the voice cast, with Ronnie Chieng stepping into the shoes of Kahn Souphanousinphone, Kenneth Choi as Ted Wassanasong, Ki Hong Lee as Chane Wassanasong, and Tai Leclaire as Joseph Gribble.
