Okay, so I’m a huge Wanda Maximoff fan, and it sounds like Elizabeth Olsen is hoping she’s not done playing her yet! She recently said she honestly has no idea what’s going to happen to Wanda after Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is kinda stressing me out, but also… exciting? I’m really hoping they find a way to bring her back somehow.
The last time audiences saw Wanda Maximoff, played by Elizabeth Olsen, her character appeared to die when a building collapsed on her, seemingly ending her story as a villain. Although death isn’t always permanent in the Marvel Universe, Olsen told InStyle she genuinely doesn’t know if Wanda could still be alive. She recently returned to the role in the animated series Marvel Zombies, but she revealed she recorded her lines for that project years ago, meaning she hasn’t actively played Wanda for quite some time.
Despite everything, she described her time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a really fun experience. She joked that it was silly and that the actors acted like kids, running around, pretending to fly, and shooting things. She told InStyle that she’s enjoyed playing the character for over a decade, and while it’s nice to take a break, she always misses the role and would happily return if given the chance.
She also appreciates that working on big Marvel movies provides financial stability, allowing her to pursue smaller, independent projects. As she explained, it gives her the freedom to make choices and offers valuable resources when she’s creating those films.
Olsen emphasized how rewarding the work is for everyone involved. She explained, “It’s deeply fulfilling, and great acting is always the goal.” She also pointed out the frustration felt when the artistry and hard work of the entire team – hundreds of people contributing their best – isn’t recognized, even though visual effects are often needed to make the impossible seem real, like flying.
It’s currently unclear what the future holds for the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but fans are really hoping Elizabeth Olsen will return to the role. Many theories suggest ways to bring her back, acknowledging what happened in Doctor Strange. While Olsen hasn’t been officially confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, Marvel likely won’t reveal any plans before the movies come out, given the huge amount of excitement for her return.
Olsen Reveals Marvel Comics Stories She’d Like to Visit with Scarlet Witch
This isn’t the first time Olsen has hinted at returning as Scarlet Witch. Earlier this month, she shared how much the Marvel films mean to her and suggested there’s a lot more story to tell with the character. She explained that the last five years have allowed her to explore the role in ways she never expected.
Olsen mentioned there are still storylines from the comics she’d like to explore, believing fans would enjoy them as well. She emphasized that these films are made for the audience, not critics. Whether she’ll get the chance to continue playing Wanda in the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains to be seen.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.
