Unfortunately, the third season of One-Punch Man is facing the same animation problems that plagued its second season. Many fans had hoped J.C. Staff would avoid repeating those issues, but the latest episode has received significant criticism for its animation, particularly during Saitama’s scenes. This negative reaction has impacted the creative team, leading director Shinpei Nagai to delete his social media accounts after receiving fan backlash, despite previously sharing his thoughts on the new season.
Nagai recently announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he was leaving the internet due to harassment. In a now-deleted post, he explained that some followers were deliberately trying to provoke him and create drama. He said they were twisting his words, attempting to get him to reveal confidential information, and even trying to profit from his statements. Nagai stated he’s always been genuine with his fans, but the situation had become unsustainable for his current project, leading to his decision to delete his account.
Shinpei Nagai Bails
Shinpei explained his decision to leave X, emphasizing the impact on true fans. He stated he couldn’t stand to see the hard work of the staff and creators disrespected or exploited for personal gain, especially through hateful behavior. Because of this, he announced he was deleting his account and wouldn’t be returning, asking for understanding regarding his decision to protect the integrity of the work.
I was really saddened to hear that all the negativity has been getting to Nagai. He shared that it’s been seriously impacting his mental health, which ultimately made the decision to step away from the internet a little easier. He feels like the awful behavior doesn’t just hurt him, but also the people he works with and those who originally created the content he’s involved with – and he rightly says that kind of behavior is unacceptable. He did want to thank those fans who have been supportive and apologized for any disappointment, saying he truly enjoyed his time connecting with everyone.
The recent criticism surrounding the animation of One-Punch Man season three started after the second episode. The episode featured Garou, weakened after a fight with Saitama, battling members of the Monster Association. While some of the fight animation was good, a scene of Garou sliding down a hill was heavily criticized by viewers. Many fans feel that the studio J.C. Staff, which took over from Madhouse (who animated the first season so well), hasn’t met the same high standards.
