I Wasn’t So Sure About Seth MacFarlane’s The ‘Burbs Remake With Keke Palmer, But The Fun First-Look Video Won Me Over

Most of Tom Hanks’s films – from huge hits to smaller, beloved favorites – are considered classics, which is why Hollywood hasn’t tried to remake many of them. However, producers Seth MacFarlane and Brian Grazer are working with Peacock on a new series based on The ‘Burbs, starring Keke Palmer as the main character who’s quick to suspect something’s wrong. I was skeptical at first, but the recently released teaser trailer has definitely piqued my interest.

The streaming service just released a first look at The ‘Burbs, and announced its release date! You’ll be able to watch all eight episodes of the mystery-comedy on Peacock starting Sunday, February 8, 2026. That means you won’t have to wait weeks to find out what happens – the whole season will be available at once. Check out the new teaser trailer now!

There isn’t much new information revealed in this, but those who have seen the original 1984 movie will understand the context. Regardless, let’s go over the cast and a summary of the story to make sure everyone is familiar with it.

What The ‘Burbs’ Remake Is About

Like the original movie, Peacock’s new version of The ‘Burbs is set in the present day, not the past. The story follows a young couple – played by Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall (known from Jungle Cruise) – who move into his childhood home. She’s not thrilled about the move.

The situation worsens when a new neighbor moves in, stirring up long-buried secrets among the residents of the quiet street. This leads to dangerous threats and chaos, turning a peaceful neighborhood into a place where you can’t trust anyone.

I expect this new series will offer some surprising changes to the story from Joe Dante’s movie, but I’m avoiding specifics in case it turns out to be a very close adaptation.

The ‘Burbs Has A Stacked Cast And Creative Team

I’m really excited about the cast they’re building for this new movie! Beyond the leads from Nope and Clifford the Big Red Dog, they’ve added some seriously funny people. Paula Pell, who I love from SNL and Bridesmaids, will be in it, as will Julia Duffy, a classic from Newhart and Designing Women. Mark Proksch from What We Do in the Shadows is on board too, along with Kapil Talwalkar who I remember from Night Court. From what I’ve heard, Justin Kirk – a fantastic actor from shows like Weeds and Succession – will be playing the new neighbor who everyone starts to get suspicious of.

The new version of The ‘Burbs has a strong creative team behind it. It’s produced by Seth MacFarlane (Fuzzy Door) and Brian Grazer (Imagine Entertainment), and written/produced by Dana Olsen, who also worked on the original film. Celeste Hughey, known for her work on Netflix’s Dead to Me and Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, led the show as showrunner for the first season. Rachel Shukert, who has writing and producing credits on shows like Supergirl, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Nine Perfect Strangers, is also part of the writing team.

Brian Grazer and Tom Hanks have a long history of working together, starting with the 1984 film Splash, and continuing with hits like Apollo 13 and The Da Vinci Code. While Grazer wasn’t involved in the original The ‘Burbs, it makes you wonder if his participation now could lead to a cameo by Hanks. The ‘Burbs is known for one of Hanks’ most memorable on-screen outbursts, so fans might be hoping to see him recreate a similar moment.

Whether or not Tom Hanks appears in it, the movie The ‘Burbs will be available to stream on February 8, 2026. Plus, Keke Palmer fans have another nostalgic project to look forward to: Spaceballs 2, a sequel spoof that just finished filming this week.
