For many people, Cartoon Network defined their childhoods. The 1990s and 2000s were a particularly great time for cartoons, creating beloved shows and characters that are still popular today. One of the biggest hits from that era was definitely Ben 10. It quickly became a fan favorite, leading to three follow-up series, several movies (both animated and live-action), and even a fresh start with a reboot. The story of Ben Tennyson, who discovers a watch allowing him to transform into countless aliens to battle exciting villains, captured the hearts of many. Who hasn’t dreamed of having their own Omnitrix and a team of alien heroes? Even though it’s been six years since the last Ben 10 release, fans are still passionately devoted to the series.
Fans can now experience the original Ben 10 series in a brand-new way! Dynamite Entertainment has released the first issue of a comic that revisits Ben’s discovery of the Omnitrix, but with a darker and more intense tone. It’s a fresh take on the beloved story, offering a familiar feel with higher stakes and a unique perspective. This Ben 10 is both new and nostalgic, sure to excite longtime fans.
A Darker Universe for an Absolute Reimagining

The story began with Vilgax describing all the planets he’d conquered and hinting at a single weapon that could defeat him. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Ben and Gwen were arguing as usual. Gwen accidentally hit a nerve when she suggested Ben’s parents sent him on the family road trip just to get him out of their hair for the summer. Upset, Ben walked away, and at that moment, the military detected the Omnitrix falling from the sky. It landed right in front of Ben and attached to his wrist, but this time, a large group of soldiers arrived on the scene immediately – something that didn’t happen in the original story.
Okay, so Ben really jumped into things with this new series! He was immediately thrown into a fight with one of Vilgax’s guys – a cyborg bear, of all things! It was wild seeing him transform into Four Arms; the animation was so detailed and a little creepy, honestly. He didn’t quite finish the fight before changing back, but luckily he quickly became Heatblast and managed to scare the bear off. Now he’s stuck as an alien, with no idea how long it’ll last, and the military is after him! Grandpa Max, of course, acted like he totally predicted this, saying it was coming but way sooner than expected. Honestly, this new show doesn’t hold back at all, and it’s given Ben a much darker and more interesting backstory. It’s a really strong start!
A Fresh Take that Still Reminds Us of the Original

How does this new version stack up against the original Ben 10? The core storyline is very similar, though there’s more focus on the military and Vilgax doesn’t suffer quite as much damage during the chase. Where things really change are in the details. The original Ben was a carefree kid thrown into a tough situation, but this Ben is angrier and more burdened. He acts like the old Ben would at first, but we can expect him to become more serious and deal with heavier emotional issues as the show goes on. The threats are also much bigger – Vilgax conquering ten planets in Alien Force was a big deal, but here he dismisses it as something he’s done to countless worlds.
This version is geared towards a slightly older audience than the original, with more mature themes and scary moments, but it still remains accessible to younger viewers. It successfully appeals to both longtime fans and a new generation, finding a sweet spot between the two. The pacing feels a little rushed at times, and a clearer view of the Omnitrix after the crash would have been nice. However, it’s clearly a reboot made by people who genuinely care about the source material. It revisits familiar ground in a fresh way, which is exactly what a reboot should do.
