Xbox is reportedly planning to bring back a famous game series originally released on the PlayStation 1, but the new installment is still a ways off. While the series hasn’t been untouched recently, Xbox hasn’t done anything with it since acquiring Activision. This is particularly noteworthy because the game is strongly associated with the PS1 and was originally created by Naughty Dog, the studio behind popular franchises like Uncharted and The Last of Us.
Before creating popular games like Uncharted and The Last of Us, Naughty Dog first became famous for Crash Bandicoot. For a long time, PlayStation fans wanted the studio to make another Crash Bandicoot game. However, that’s no longer possible because Microsoft (Xbox) now owns the rights to the series after acquiring Activision. While Crash Bandicoot hasn’t been actively developed recently, Xbox hasn’t done anything with it – until now, potentially. According to a source, a new Crash Bandicoot game is in development at Xbox, but it hasn’t been announced yet.
Report About New Crash Bandicoot Game
A new leak from a source called No Arms and No Legs – who has accurately revealed announcements early before – suggests a new Spyro the Dragon game is in development. While the leaker hasn’t named the developer, it’s likely Toys for Bob, the studio behind Crash Team Rumble, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. They’ve been the primary developer of the Crash Bandicoot series recently.
If the same team is developing a new game, the issue is that they’re currently focused on the new Spyro the Dragon game, which isn’t expected to launch until next year. Considering their typical development timeline of four to five years for major titles, a new Crash Bandicoot game would likely release between 2031 and 2032, provided Spyro doesn’t face any delays. This assumes the studio continues to operate as it currently does, and there’s no indication it’s changing its approach.
Keep in mind that this is all just speculation, and it might not amount to anything. We won’t have a definitive answer for a couple of years, as we’ll need to wait for the studio to announce what happens next.
