A beloved collection of three classic PlayStation 1 games is set to arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2. These games are currently playable on the existing Nintendo Switch, and will be compatible with the new Switch 2. While there isn’t a special version built just for the Switch 2 yet, one is expected with improved graphics and performance.
Although there hasn’t been an official announcement, a recent listing with the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) suggests that Tomb Raider I-III Remastered is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The ESRB rates games before they’re released, and a new rating for this title indicates that Aspyr has submitted the game for release on the new console. This leak also implies a release date is likely soon, as the ESRB typically only rates games close to their launch. The rating itself doesn’t provide any further details.
2024 Remasters Getting New Release
Aspyr released remastered versions of the first three Tomb Raider games in 2024, known as Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, for several platforms. They followed that up last year with Tomb Raider IV–VI Remastered. While there’s currently no indication of a rating for the second collection, the plan is likely to also release it on the upcoming Switch 2.
When Tomb Raider I-III Remastered launched, it received Metacritic scores between 71 and 75 – a respectable result, but lower than the original games. The first Tomb Raider game, developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive, scored a high 91 on Metacritic in 1996. Its sequel, Tomb Raider II, followed in 1997 with a score of 85. The third game in the trilogy, released in 1998, saw a slight drop in critical reception, earning a 76 on Metacritic.
As of right now, no one involved has publicly responded to this latest leak, but we expect an official statement soon.
