I was surprised the HyperX FlipCast microphone didn’t come with a stand when I agreed to test it. I frequently switch between different headsets, webcams, and microphones for recording, and I don’t usually have a boom arm set up on my desk. I’ve tested many microphones and mounts before, but I didn’t anticipate needing one for this review.
HP and HyperX recently sent me their high-end Caster arm, which is designed for microphones and cameras. I decided to test it out and share my thoughts, along with a review of their FlipCast microphone.
After testing the HyperX Caster for a few weeks, I’ve found it really delivers on design – it’s sleek and I especially appreciated how easy it was to set up and adjust without any tools. However, the price point is a significant drawback. While it’s a capable mount, most people will probably find more affordable options that work just as well.
HP provided us with a sample unit for this review. However, neither HP nor HyperX had any influence on its content before it was published.
Easy setup, easy adjustment, easy headaches

Microphone arms are usually pretty simple, so I’ll keep this review brief. The HyperX Caster has a clean, stylish look similar to other high-end options, but what really sets it apart is how easy it is to set up – you don’t need any tools at all.
It comes with one C-clamp, which should fit most desks and tables securely. The arm rotates a full 360 degrees and has three flexible joints that you can adjust separately. It connects to your equipment with a standard 5/8-inch thread, and includes adapters for 3/8-inch and 1/4-inch connections.
The Caster looks great and feels well-made. It also includes a simple and effective system for organizing cables. Once it’s set up, you’ll have everything you need.
The HyperX Caster’s spring-assisted joints are its greatest strength and biggest weakness.
The HyperX Caster can be tricky to set up, mainly due to its spring-assisted joints. Each joint has a tension dial that lets you adjust the spring strength, allowing you to customize it for the weight of your microphone or camera. The goal is to move your equipment smoothly without constantly needing to readjust it.
While it functions as expected, adjusting the tension on the joints requires a significant amount of experimentation. The adjustment dials feel flimsy, though none of mine broke, I was concerned they might. Also, the joints seem to have a preferred, balanced position, so making larger adjustments takes time and patience.
The Caster is quite bulky, even for microphone arms, making it a poor choice for small workspaces where space is limited.
HyperX Caster review: My final thoughts

✅You should buy this if …
- You want a premium microphone mount and are willing to pay for it.
- You want toolless installation with easy, intuitive adjustment.
- You have plenty of space to make use of this range of motion.
❌You should not buy this if …
- You just need a basic mount for your microphone or camera.
- You have limited space or a setup that won’t work with a C-clamp.
Upgrading to a microphone or camera arm is a common step for serious content creators and professionals looking to improve their setup. While most arms are quite affordable, the HyperX Caster is a premium option that costs significantly more than typical models.
Is it worth the money? I believe so, but only if you’re comfortable with the price. Most people probably won’t want to spend that much, and that’s perfectly okay. There are many other great microphone arms available at lower prices that work just as well.
After a little setup, the HyperX Caster looks fantastic and makes it really easy to position your microphone or camera exactly where you want it. If this sounds helpful, you can find it at HP.com for $139.99.
