Season 2 of Peacemaker has added a lot of new faces to the DC Universe, and one character in particular might have a surprisingly interesting backstory, according to a popular fan theory. This season of Peacemaker takes place firmly within James Gunn’s revamped DCU, continuing the storylines established in the animated series Creature Commandos and the live-action Superman reboot. While some elements from Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and the first season of Peacemaker are officially part of the new continuity, the latest season also introduces several new characters and narratives to the DCU.
I’ve been loving season 2 of Peacemaker, and one of the biggest surprises has been Langston Fleury (played by Tim Meadows). He’s an ARGUS agent tasked with keeping an eye on John Economos while they both monitor Peacemaker, and honestly, he’s delivered some of the show’s funniest and most memorable scenes. But a really interesting theory has been circulating on Reddit, and it’s got me thinking. Fans believe Fleury might actually be the first Martian character in the DCU! It would explain a lot, like why he struggles with social interactions, his unique sense of humor, what they’ve called his “bird blindness,” and even his tendency to be a bit judgmental. If true, this could be a fantastic way to introduce Martian Manhunter into the DCU!
Could Langston Fleury Really Be a Martian in the DCU?

It really seems likely that Fleury could be a character from Mars – even if he isn’t revealed to be Martian Manhunter. Ever since he first appeared in Peacemaker season 2, episode 2, “A Man is Only as Good as His Bird,” Fleury has shown he doesn’t understand social cues and doesn’t seem to care about basic facts regarding those around him. He doesn’t bother learning people’s names, and instead makes up his own nicknames, like calling Economos “Ginger Cool,” or giving his ARGUS colleagues names such as “Mexicali,” “Barely Legal,” “Encino Man,” and others.
Fleury’s seeming lack of understanding of social cues might be because he’s not from Earth. Some viewers have also noticed a strange moment in the latest episode of Peacemaker, titled “Ignorance is Chris.” In the scene, Fleury and Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) are discussing the whereabouts of Peacemaker, and Fleury’s behavior is particularly unusual. He gives Flag an intense, prolonged stare, almost as if attempting to read his thoughts. Given that Martians in DC Comics possess telepathic abilities, this could be a hint that Fleury is one of them, which would also explain his odd inability to notice birds – a trait sometimes called “bird blindness.”
Even someone unfamiliar with Earth’s wildlife wouldn’t be able to tell the birds apart, but discovering Fleury’s true identity would make him a powerhouse within the DCU. In the DC Extended Universe, Lieutenant General Calvin Swanwick (Harry Lennix) from Man of Steel was revealed to be Martian Manhunter – a secret fans had long suspected – though we never actually saw him use his powers. The DCU could repeat this surprising reveal if Fleury is shown to be J’onn J’onzz, or another Martian, which would open up exciting possibilities for the comedic actor following Peacemaker season 2.
