I’m Convinced I Already Know Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey Twist in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

The latest trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day didn’t feature Sadie Sink directly, though some fans believe they spotted her in a couple of quick shots where her face wasn’t visible. The trailer also offered clues about the movie’s main villain, and recent leaks suggest the Hulk will play a significant, possibly angry, part in the story. Combining these hints with a well-known Marvel comic book plotline, it looks like Sadie Sink’s character could have a much larger role than initially thought.

After seeing the initial trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day and details from the script, it’s now highly likely that Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey. However, she won’t be a fugitive mutant; instead, she appears to be working with the Hand to seize control of New York City.

Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey Might Be Controlled By The Beast

Fans have spotted what they believe to be Sadie Sink in two scenes from the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. One scene shows a pair of hands tied to a chair, and the other features a cloaked figure who appears to be controlling others. These scenes connect to two other moments in the trailer: Spider-Man teaming up with the police to fight criminals, only for the police to seemingly fall under mind control, and Spider-Man battling the Hand, first inside a prison and then outdoors near a building.

There’s a lot of speculation that Sadie Sink might play a version of Jean Grey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This wouldn’t be the Jean Grey fans already know from the X-Men films, but a younger version from this Earth, before the mutants arrive. She’d be new to her powers and still learning to control them. Another rumor suggests that someone will trigger the Hulk, causing him to go on a destructive rampage, and Spider-Man will have to intervene.

The trailer suggests the show might draw inspiration from the “Shadowland” comic book arc, but with a twist – Daredevil won’t be involved. In “Shadowland,” the hero Daredevil tried to control a dangerous organization called the Hand, only to be manipulated by a powerful demon known as the Beast. It’s possible this version of the Beast – different from the X-Men character with the same name – has found someone else to control. Jean Grey, with her immense psychic abilities, could be that person, using her powers to control minds and guide the Hand towards its goals.

Early speculation suggested Mister Negative might appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and be responsible for enraging the Hulk through mind control. However, Jean Grey is a more likely candidate for triggering the Hulk’s anger, particularly if she’s struggling with her powers and being manipulated by Beast. This could explain why the Punisher is trying to help her, recognizing she’s not in control and wanting to save her from a dark influence. The mysterious figure in a robe seen in the trailer might be Jean, and she could be the one shown restrained (perhaps by Damage Control) before escaping and calling on the Hand for help.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Should Set Up Jean Grey to Be the Focus of the X-Men

It’s possible this character is actually Rachel Summers, not Jean Grey, but that doesn’t quite fit the story, as she wouldn’t have the same family background. It’s more likely this is Jean Grey, and if Spider-Man and the Punisher can rescue her from the Beast and separate her from both the Hand and Damage Control, she should be a central figure in future X-Men movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Imagine Cyclops joining the MCU with the remaining X-Men, only to then encounter a younger version of Jean Grey – someone he lost in his own timeline. This could be particularly impactful for Scott, as their age difference previously prevented a connection. He could be the one to help her realize her potential and lead the mutants of this world to a brighter future – one his own world denied them. The new X-Men should focus on younger mutants, and given how important Jean Grey appears to be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, she seems like the perfect character to build the MCU’s mutant stories around.
