The pandemic disrupted the entertainment sector significantly, causing numerous film and TV productions to be delayed or postponed. Josh Greenbaum’s “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar” was among those affected, moving from a 2020 release to 2021, before audiences had fully returned to theaters. I’ve just finished my yearly re-watch of this amusing comedy, and I’m still puzzled as to why it hasn’t reached “Anchorman” levels of popular quotability and adoration among moviegoers.
Barb & Star’s acting troupe flawlessly brings out the absurdity that makes this movie stand out, and I consider it among the greatest comedies ever made. It’s like quoting lines from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but there are people who haven’t experienced this hilarious masterpiece in all its short-skirted splendor. Trust me, watch it immediately – it’s available for streaming with a Hulu subscription.
As a fan, I’m excited to share that you can stream “Barb & Star” right here on Hulu! And
Despite comedy being a well-established genre, few productions match the sheer absurdity of “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar”. I consider it on par with “Anchorman” in its comedic brilliance. This film might be dumb, but it’s smartly and hilariously so. From start to finish, it’s preposterously entertaining, which is why TopMob’s review of “Barb & Star” was exceptionally positive. We weren’t the only publication to share this view, as the movie currently boasts an 81% rating and is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite not being widely watched yet (come on, give it a try!), everyone I’ve shared Barb & Star with has instantly become hooked, just like me. In fact, some of my friend circles are constantly quoting the film. I can only hope that more people will join this fan club and help turn this comedy into an authentic cult classic. With luck, maybe we’ll even get a sequel where the characters Barb and Star, played by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo, embark on another adventure to a new destination.

In the film “Barb & Star,” Jamie Dornan delivers another remarkable performance, following his stint in the “Fifty Shades” series. His acting aligns perfectly with the film’s eccentric style, holding his own alongside comedy veterans like Wiig and Mumolo. This is particularly evident in the movie’s two musical sequences, one of which spotlights Dornan solo.
Jamie Dornan is open to a sequel for “Barb & Star”, and I find that incredibly exciting! However, he mentioned that due to COVID, the movie didn’t reach as many viewers as expected. But if we all continue sharing our love for this hilariously absurd film, maybe the buzz will grow loud enough for another project. Fingers crossed, here’s hoping!
It’s currently available for streaming on Hulu, “Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar”. Unfortunately, there isn’t a sequel planned for the big screen in 2025 or beyond. So I guess I’ll just keep enjoying it by re-watching and memorizing every line!
