Sony has recently been removing thousands of poor-quality, quickly-made games from the PlayStation Store. This effort aims to improve the overall quality of games available on the platform.
It’s great that the company is trying, but similar things are happening frequently. However, Sony should definitely keep an eye on one game that’s about to be released.
We can’t quite put our finger on it, but something about this game doesn’t quite sit right:
Okay, so anyone who’s seen this game can immediately tell it takes a lot of inspiration from Gran Turismo – you know, that super popular racing series Sony makes? It’s pretty obvious!
I’ve been playing Gran Carismo since it came out on Steam and Switch earlier this year, and it’s great! But honestly, releasing it on PS5 now feels a little risky, doesn’t it? Like they might be pushing their luck!
This game is a perfect example of a trend on the PlayStation Store: many lesser-known games use names very similar to popular titles. These games are designed to trick customers into buying them by mistake, hoping to profit from those who don’t notice the subtle differences.
New games are constantly being released on the PlayStation Store and other platforms, and it’s difficult to control the sheer volume without significantly changing the game submission and approval process.
It’s a challenge because adding tougher requirements might unintentionally block small developers who are legitimately trying to contribute.
Sony appears to be investigating specific instances of companies flooding the PlayStation Store with low-quality, mass-produced games – often referred to as ‘shovelware’.
It remains to be seen whether Gran Carismo will be released on the PlayStation Store without legal issues arising.
