Wicked Director Reveals Why Friendship Montage Scene Didn’t Make The Cut

I was so touched by that scene – it really highlighted the beautiful friendship between all the characters. Knowing how things fall apart later in the story, it made perfect sense! It felt like a deliberate choice to solidify those relationships before everything went wrong. I was fascinated to learn from a Billboard interview that director Jon Chu actually filmed it for the first Wicked movie, keeping it under wraps in case it would fit better in Wicked: For Good. It shows how much thought and care went into the whole story!

Director Chu mentioned he might include some of the footage in a future film, as he still has another movie planned. He explained he’s holding onto certain shots because he hasn’t decided if they’ll make the final cut, but he’s open to the possibility of using them later.

Bode described a fun, fast-paced scene featuring Boq and Fiyero playfully competing with each other. She explained it’s a montage of lighthearted moments in the forest, filled with silly antics like the two characters spontaneously taking off their shirts and chopping wood, just for fun.

It’s unclear why this scene wasn’t included in the first Wicked movie, as it would have fit well with the story and its overall feel. Because For Good has a slightly different tone thanks to how the original film ends, it makes sense that the scene was ultimately left out of the sequel.

Wicked: For Good hits video on demand on December 31st.
