Consider Liam Hemsworth fully, uh, bewitchered by Gabriella Brooks.

He admitted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon a few months after his proposal that he hadn’t meticulously planned the engagement. He’d bought the ring, but was simply waiting for the perfect time to propose to his Australian partner while still filming the Netflix series The Witcher.

Mission accomplished, considering, as the Isn’t It Romantic actor pointed out, “she said yes.”

The newly engaged couple then went to the Maldives to relax and celebrate. They didn’t publicly announce the exciting news until September, when Gabriella posted a photo on Instagram – the sparkling diamond on her ring finger made it clear they were getting married!

“We’re super excited,” Liam told Today‘s Savannah Guthrie Oct. 27. “It’s a happy time in life.”

It’s typical for the couple, who generally keep their personal lives private, to demonstrate their affection through actions rather than openly discussing their nearly six-year relationship.

Given that Liam’s decade-long, highly public relationship with Miley Cyrus played out in the public eye, it’s natural he’d want to keep his current relationship private. Gabriella, meanwhile, previously dated Matty Healy of The 1975, who has openly described a turbulent relationship with her, marked by both closeness and distance.

Suffice it to say, both she and Liam were ready for something new.

Rumors about the couple began circulating in December 2019 when they were seen having lunch with Liam’s parents. This happened four months after Liam and Miley announced their separation, which came less than a year into their marriage. Their relationship was confirmed a few weeks later with a romantic moment on the beach in Byron Bay, proving they were more than just friends.

When asked if he was starting over, the actor from The Hunger Games agreed with the description in a 2020 interview with Men’s Health Australia.

According to a source who spoke to TopMob News in January 2021, Liam’s relationship with Gabriella is much more compatible than his previous one with Miley, as they share similar interests and a comparable lifestyle.

Liam was born 36 years ago on January 13th in Melbourne, and Gabriella is from Sydney. Both are very close to their families – Liam’s parents and brothers Chris and Luke Hemsworth, along with their wives, often support each other, and Gabriella comes from a family of five siblings. They both enjoy spending as much time as possible at their beachside home in Byron Bay.

Gabriella shared with Harper’s Bazaar Australia in late 2023 that despite a year filled with incredible work opportunities and lots of travel, the best part was always returning home. She explained that while she loved every moment of her trips, there’s a unique and special feeling about being back home after landing.

Okay, so of course Gabriella spent New Year’s Eve with Liam! I saw the pictures and they were absolutely perfect. They were with friends, and there were fireworks over the Sydney waterfront – seriously, the Harbour Bridge looked amazing in the background of her photos. It was everything you’d expect, honestly. But that too was a rare glimpse into the 29-year-old’s private world. 

Gabriella shared with Stellar in 2021 that her romantic life is incredibly important and private. She believes that in the entertainment industry, where people often share details of their lives publicly, it’s important to keep some things personal.

She said her partner is doing well and that the Hemsworth family is wonderful. She feels very fortunate to be friends with them, describing them as beautiful people.

I’ve been following the Hemsworth family for a while now, and it’s clear how much everyone cares about Liam’s happiness. Even Elsa Pataky, Chris’s wife, said a few years ago that Liam is a really strong person and deserves all the good things in life. So, naturally, they’re all thrilled to have Gabrielle in his life too – you can just tell they adore her!

Gabriella, who wasn’t accustomed to so much focus on her personal life, shared with Australia’s Daily Telegraph in 2021 that she has a strong support system that keeps her centered. She explained, “It’s incredibly grounding to have people remind me of what truly matters.”

Although their first public appearance as a couple was at the Sydney premiere of Liam’s film Poker Face in November 2022, they’ve since become a globally recognized glamorous pair.

Gabriella and Liam recently attended the premiere of The Witcher in London, marking Gabriella’s first red carpet appearance since getting engaged. Liam had thoughtfully purchased the ring beforehand, hoping to propose at just the right moment.
