Introducing the New Captain America: David Colton’s Shocking Origins Revealed

In the recently released issue #1 of “Captain America,” penned by Chip Zdarsky and illustrated by Valerio Schiti, we’re introduced to a fresh wielder of the iconic shield. This comic takes us back to when Steve Rogers thawed from the ice post World War II, right before he became an Avenger. Alongside Steve’s story, we get a glimpse into David Colton’s journey – a young lad motivated by 9/11 events to enlist in the military. Reminiscent of Steve’s tale, David’s appears to culminate with an offer for super-soldier serum. Now, Marvel fans can learn more about their latest Captain America character!

In the latest updates, Marvel unveiled interior pages of Captain America #2, coupled with an intriguing interview with writer Chip Zdarsky. The interview sheds light on the character, David Colton, who is a Captain America from a bygone era, resurrected in a post-9/11 world. Interestingly, Steve Rogers, his idol, has made a comeback and is now under David’s command. As Zdarsky puts it, “Meeting your heroes can be a tricky business.” He further added that crafting David’s story and exploring how modern warfare impacts someone adopting this role has been both challenging and rewarding. Writing Steve Rogers from David’s perspective and witnessing his journey in this new world has been particularly gratifying for Zdarsky.

Steve Rogers and David Colton are members of a group sneaking into the country of Latveria with the aim of rescuing diplomats who have been captured by Doctor Doom. The early chapters of the Captain America series take place in the past, but they will lay the groundwork for future tales as we revert to present-day events. “Latveria poses a challenge, and Doom’s influence looms large,” hinted Zdarsky.

The opening scenes display a fully grown David Colton lounging on a military jeep as one of his fellow soldiers receives a shave from a local resident. On another page, you’ll see David in his green Captain America attire, alongside Steve Rogers, who are depicted leaping from an airplane together. Since it wouldn’t be wise to infiltrate another nation while dressed in the colors of the USA, Steve is shown wearing a new stealth suit instead.

In their latest mission, the Captain Americas (plural) and Howling Commandos run into Doctor Doom, or at least a robot version of him. Unfortunately, the duo of Howling Commandos fail to defeat him. David charges ahead with his shield, while Steve uses his to provide assistance. Additionally, Marvel has released cover art for Captain America #4 by Ben Harvey, Fabrizio de Tommaso, and Chip Zdarsky, along with Valerio Schiti’s design concepts for David Colton’s Captain America costume.

In the second issue of Captain America, we delve into an untold chapter of the hero’s past as he encounters DOOM for the first time. The story unfolds in Latveria, providing a fresh perspective never seen before. Moreover, we meet David Colton, a character whose loyalty to Steve Rogers is yet to be tested as they work together with the new Howling Commandos to invade an unfriendly nation.
