Invincible Star Steven Yeun Addresses Those Spider-Man: Brand New Day Casting Rumors (Exclusive)

Steven Yeun is well-known for his voice work as a superhero in Invincible, and he’s shown his range as an actor in shows like The Walking Dead and Beef. When Beef producer Jake Scherier began working on the Marvel movie Thunderbolts he immediately wanted Steven Yeun to play Sentry. Unfortunately, due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes and issues with scheduling, Yeun had to drop out of the project. Lewis Pullman was cast instead, and Yeun hasn’t yet appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There was some talk, though, that Marvel was considering him for a part in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie.

Steven Yeun recently spoke with ComicBook and addressed rumors about him potentially being cast in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Unfortunately, he confirmed the rumors aren’t true. When asked about the possibility, Yeun said he hadn’t heard anything about it, but admitted, “That would have been awesome.”

Steve Yeun Is Still Interested In Joining the MCU

Originally, Steven Yeun was cast to play Sentry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that didn’t work out. Looking back, that might have been a good thing, as Lewis Pullman did a great job in the role, and it’s difficult to imagine Yeun playing the same character. Still, Marvel should find a part for someone with Yeun’s talent. A Shang-Chi sequel could be a good fit, as he and Simu Liu would have great chemistry. While it won’t happen now, a Spider-Man movie would have been another possibility.

Steven Yeun has expressed interest in joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying he’s open to any role they might offer. His Invincible colleague, Gillian Jacobs, who plays Atom Eve, also wants to be part of the MCU and suggested the relatively unknown character Dakota North. Yeun feels there are many possibilities for him and he’s eager to show Marvel what he can do.

It’s unknown what role Steven Yeun was initially considered for at Marvel, as he says the studio never contacted him about it. The upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day seems to be based on the classic Marvel Comics storyline featuring conflicts between various crime families, with villains like Tombstone, Scorpion, and potentially Mister Negative. While it would have been exciting to see Yeun play Mister Negative, he also has many possibilities for playing a hero within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yeun had previously discussed the possibility of playing Mister Negative, so his future with Marvel remains open.
