It’s common for video games to be announced and then disappear from the news for a while. IO Interactive’s new game, Project Fantasy, has been one of those, but there’s finally some positive news to share.
Hakan Abrak, the CEO, confirmed to The Game Business that the project is still actively being developed, despite recent rumors about funding issues. He hinted that a new investor has come on board and that development is progressing smoothly, describing the project as being in a “very healthy place” and still fully funded. He also shared that the team has made significant progress and is “very far” along in the development process.
Abrak hasn’t revealed much about their new partner, and his silence on whether Xbox is involved suggests the game might be released on multiple platforms – something we’ve discussed before. The game is based on the popular Fighting Fantasy books by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone, and it’s designed as a long-lasting RPG with plenty of content planned. The developers aim to create a fantasy game that feels both new and nostalgic.
We’re happy to see things progressing well and are excited to learn more about how it’s developing. While you wait, be sure to check out the studio’s next game, 007 First Light, which comes out on May 27th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. A version for the Switch 2 will be available later this summer.
