As a huge MCU fan, it’s kind of wild to think that Tony Stark never actually wore his most powerful suit of armor! It did show up in Avengers: Endgame, thankfully, and it was awesome. Robert Downey Jr. played Tony Stark – the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist – for eleven years, starting with Iron Man and ending with Endgame. He was such a core hero throughout the whole universe, and constantly improved his suits. It’s just strange that he didn’t get to use the *most* powerful one himself, even after all that work!
Tony Stark’s Iron Man armors let him fight as a hero despite not having any natural superpowers. Each suit’s main features were the ability to fly, shoot repulsor blasts, gain super strength, and use high-tech weapons. The armor was improved many times over the years, with updates like changing the AI from JARVIS to FRIDAY, adding nanotechnology, and letting it be controlled remotely. Interestingly, there was one armor Stark never actually used, even though it was his most powerful one yet.
Avengers: Endgame’s Rescue Armor Was Iron Man’s Most Powerful Suit

The blue Rescue armor, which debuted in Avengers: Endgame, is generally more powerful than any of Iron Man’s suits, though Tony Stark never actually wore it. It was first hinted at when Morgan Stark (Lexi Rabe) was shown wearing the armor’s helmet. Mostly, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) used the armor, becoming Rescue and fighting alongside her husband and the other heroes during the Battle of Earth. While we didn’t see everything the Rescue armor could do in Endgame, Pepper demonstrated some remarkable abilities while using it.
Beyond simply being stronger, tougher, and having more endurance, the Rescue armor gave Pepper Potts a boost in speed and quickness, along with the standard flight and repulsor abilities found in all Iron Man suits. But the Rescue armor quickly destroys one of Thanos’ ships with a single energy blast, hinting that its beams pack more power than Iron Man’s. She also effortlessly defeats a Leviathan using her strong lasers, whereas Stark had difficulty taking one down in The Avengers. The Rescue armor is also built with nanotechnology, can absorb energy, and was even powerful enough to momentarily knock Thanos to his knees.
We don’t know exactly how strong the Rescue armor is, but Tony Stark created it to keep Pepper and Morgan safe if anything happened to him. Knowing this, he would have definitely made it his most powerful suit yet, guaranteeing their safety. This gave Stark the peace of mind to sacrifice himself to save his family and the universe from Thanos in Avengers: Endgame, suggesting the Rescue armor might have even more protective abilities than we realize.
Will Rescue Return to the MCU?

Pepper Potts has been a vital part of Tony Stark’s journey as a superhero ever since she first appeared in Iron Man. She continued to appear in several films, including Iron Man 2, The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Although she briefly became Rescue in Endgame, we haven’t seen or heard from her in the six years since. There was a possibility of Morgan Stark returning in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which might have also brought Pepper Potts back as Rescue, but so far, there’s been no confirmation that Gwyneth Paltrow will play the role again.
Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday, but this time as Doctor Doom instead of Iron Man. This return could also mean we see Pepper Potts and Morgan Stark again. It would be a great chance for Pepper to become Rescue, particularly if Doctor Doom searches for his family’s counterparts on Earth 616. While Gwyneth Paltrow has often said she probably won’t be back in the MCU, she hasn’t completely ruled out a return as Pepper Potts, which means Rescue could potentially reappear.
