Even though it’s still very early in development, this game, which is similar to Minecraft, has quickly become popular with players.
Just like Minecraft, Hytale is even more fun when you play it with friends.
So, is Hytale multiplayer? Here’s what you need to know.
Is Hytale multiplayer? How to play with friends explained
Hytale does offer multiplayer, but it’s not quite as straightforward to set up as in some other games.
Since Hytale isn’t on platforms like Steam, you can’t directly invite friends to join you. Instead, you’ll need to use servers to play together.
Servers come in two main types: those designed for multiple players and those for single players. Interestingly, both types of servers actually support multiplayer functionality, which can be a bit confusing.
Multiplayer servers are continuously available, typically rented from hosting providers, allowing players to join whenever they want. In contrast, a single-player server runs directly on the host’s computer and becomes unavailable to everyone once the host stops playing or disconnects.
So, with that in mind, here’s how Hytale multiplayer works for both types of server.

How to play with friends on a single player world in Hytale
If you want to play with friends in a single-player world, the host needs to create the world and then enter it first.
Once inside, the host can press Esc to open the pause menu, and select ‘Online Play’.
Okay, so when I’m setting up my game server, I always double-check that ‘Allow Other Players to Join’ is turned on – otherwise nobody can actually play with me! And if I want to keep things a little more private and secure, I’ll definitely set a password too.
After you click ‘Save’, a unique code will appear in the box below. Copy this code and share it with your friends so they can access your creation!
Once they’ve got the Share Code, head to the main menu and select the ‘Servers’ tab.
To connect using a code, select ‘Join via Code’ and paste in the provided Share Code. If prompted, enter the password. Then, click ‘Connect’ to join the server.
Keep in mind that servers for playing alone are run on someone’s computer, so they’ll shut down when that person stops playing. Make sure whoever hosts has a stable internet connection!
How to play with friends on a multiplayer world in Hytale
Similar to Minecraft, you can set up or rent servers that stay online 24/7, allowing players to join and play at any time, even when you’re not playing yourself.
While setting up a dedicated server takes some work, the Hytale team has made it easier with a helpful guide.
After your server is set up and verified, it will be assigned a unique IP address. Share this address with your friends so they can connect.
IP address in hand, head to the Hytale main menu and click on the ‘Servers’ tab.
Choose ‘Direct Connect’ and enter the IP address. If this is your first time connecting, select ‘Add Server’ and paste the address there. This saves the server as a favorite, so you won’t need to enter the IP address again in the future.
