It’s About To Be The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year With Christmas Season Coming To Hallmark… Except For The Layoffs

Without a shadow of a doubt, the months preceding Christmas are undeniably the most thrilling for fans of Hallmark. A plethora of fresh movies will grace the upcoming Hallmark movie lineup, spreading holiday joy from October to December. Though we’re aware of many delightful titles that will be part of the 2025 Christmas movie calendar, it seems not all those connected with Hallmark are feeling festive, as the network has recently announced layoffs.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the best season for the 30 employees who recently lost their jobs on August 20th, as confirmed by Hallmark’s representative. Regarding the layoffs, Hallmark issued a statement, according to Deadline.

During this time of considerable change within the industry, Hallmark is making strategic adjustments to adapt our workforce to align with current business requirements. This involves a continuous evaluation of particular roles and duties. Although these changes can be challenging, we have chosen to eliminate approximately 30 positions spread across various departments of the company, aiming to reorganize parts of our operations. The ultimate goal is to channel resources into capacities that will drive our business towards a prosperous future.

In the recent round of layoffs, not many positions were clearly identified, but it’s known that Hallmark Media’s Vice President of Production, Jimmy Holcomb, was among those let go. This decision followed closely on the heels of Michelle Vicary, a former programming executive who played a significant role in creating Hallmark Channel and its mystery and drama channels, as well as hit shows like When Calls the Heart, returning to her position as head of programming for all of Hallmark’s content platforms after a three-year absence.

Additionally, the head office is shifting from Studio City to Burbank in other adjustments, while in May, Hallmark concluded its streaming deal with Peacock, a move that previously allowed Peacock subscribers access to specific movies and TV shows. Moreover, it appears that the network is embracing its reality TV phase, which has sparked varying responses among fans.

It’s not enjoyable to learn about layoffs, but let’s hope it doesn’t ruin the excitement for what’s yet to unfold in the 2025 TV schedule. Actress Lacey Chabert, known as the ‘Queen of Hallmark’, has a couple of films lined up towards the end of this year – “Haul Out the Halloween,” the third installment in her “Haul Out” series, and “She’s Making a List” co-starring Andrew Walker.

We’ve got some exciting news for you! Another “Holiday Touchdown” movie is on its way, this time featuring the Buffalo Bills. Plus, it seems like we’re going to have a third installment of “Three Wise Men.” Stay tuned for more updates!

Hallmark is planning to introduce a fresh element this upcoming holiday season by launching a Christmas-themed limited series. The small screen adaptation of “The Twelve Dates of Christmas” will feature Mae Whitman from “Parenthood”, Mary McDonnell from “Battlestar Galactica” and Jane Seymour known for her role in “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”.

A significant number of transformations are underway at Hallmark, regrettably resulting in the termination of 30 positions. Let’s hope these changes won’t affect the Countdown to Christmas and other holiday specials adversely. Be sure to watch for the upcoming schedule announcement, which should be released shortly.
