After a five-year wait, it’s confirmed: Black Clover is returning for a second season this fall! Fans have been eagerly anticipating the show’s comeback, especially since the first season ended on a cliffhanger. The anime initially stopped after 170 episodes because it was catching up to the manga’s storyline. Now that the manga has finished, the anime is ready to continue!
I’m so excited! Black Clover Season 2 is officially happening and will be part of the Fall 2026 anime lineup. We don’t have a specific date just yet, but they’ve given us some awesome updates on who’s working on it – including some new people joining the team! Plus, the new director, Ayataka Tanemura, shared a special illustration that you absolutely need to see!
Black Clover Season 2 Confirms October 2026 Release Window

The second season of Black Clover is set to premiere in October as part of the Fall 2026 anime lineup. Fans outside of Japan will be able to watch new episodes exclusively on Crunchyroll. Ayataka Tanemura is now directing the series at Studio Pierrot, with Keiichiro Ochi writing the scripts, Itsuko Takeda and Kumiko Tokunaga designing the characters, Kosei Takahashi working on props, and Minako Seki composing the music. This announcement confirms key staff members for the new season.
Fans can look forward to a sneak peek at the first episode of Black Clover Season 2 at Anime Expo 2026 this July! The premiere will be held on stage, and voice actor Gakuto Kajiwara (Asta) and director Ayataka Tanemura will both be there to discuss what’s coming in the new season. It’s sure to be a highlight of the convention for Black Clover fans.
What’s Going on in Black Clover Season 2?
Season 2 of Black Clover will pick up right where things left off, so it’s a good idea to finish the first season—all 170 episodes—on Crunchyroll beforehand. The season ended with a major cliffhanger: after being unexpectedly attacked by the Dark Triad, Asta and his friends have just three days to train and gain enough strength to fight back in the Spade Kingdom, the Dark Triad’s home base.
The Spade Kingdom Raid arc was the second-to-last story arc in the Black Clover series, and the final arc recently finished airing this Spring, with hints that more is still to come. Now that the anime has caught up to the manga, it has a clear path to adapt the story all the way to its ending. The big question now is whether the anime can deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series.
