It’s Official, Chainsaw Man Ends After 8 Years With Final Chapter (& Major Returns)

After much speculation, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man has officially concluded after an eight-year run. The manga had been building to the finale of Part 2 for the past month, and while the previous chapter hinted at an ending, many fans were still unsure if it was truly the end.

Fans of Chainsaw Man were unsure if the story would continue after Part 2, but Chapter 232 has confirmed the series has ended. The final chapter gives Denji a fitting conclusion to his journey, though some readers hoping for more might find it bittersweet. Be warned: full spoilers for the ending are below.

How Does Chainsaw Man End With Chapter 232?

Chapter 232 of Chainsaw Man begins immediately after Pochita sacrifices himself to destroy the Chainsaw Devil. We see that Denji has gone back to his ordinary life, but this time without Pochita by his side. He encounters the Zombie Devil and is killed, just as before. However, surprisingly, it’s Power who saves him. Intrigued by Denji, she revives him using his blood and makes him her pet.

Similar to the original story, Denji and Power are captured by a Devil in control, but this time it’s Nayuta, not Makima, leading the devil hunters while also attending school. They even go to school on a mission to eliminate devils, and Denji saves Asa from repeating the tragic events of the previous timeline by preventing a key mistake. As a result, this new timeline is significantly more peaceful, offering a happy ending for everyone except Denji.

What Does This Ending Mean for Denji?

As I reached the end of the story, in a chapter called “Thank You, Chainsaw Man,” it became clear that Denji and everyone else had completely forgotten what happened in the previous timeline. Denji described it as having a vivid, but ultimately unreal, dream – both good and bad. Even after everything, he still craved simple pleasures like food, fun, and a bit of excitement, hoping things would finally turn out well for him. He’s now fighting devils alongside Power, but that familiar feeling of wanting more hasn’t gone away. It reminded me of what Pochita once said about Denji – no matter what he gets, he always seems to want something else.

The world ended because of Denji’s self-centeredness, and the only way to find some peace was to put him in his current situation. He doesn’t realize how much better his life is now compared to what it could have been, which is a sad reminder of Pochita’s sacrifice. Because Denji struggles to value others, it’s probably best to keep him isolated.
