Prime Video’s Jason Bourne replacement is hitting big on streaming.
Aside from a brief television series, the popular Jason Bourne film series hasn’t had a new installment since 2016. While a sixth movie is said to be in the works, there haven’t been many updates. Now, a new action-packed spy thriller is available for streaming.
Since its release on March 20th, the movie Agent Zeta has become one of the biggest hits on Prime Video, currently ranking as the second most popular title globally. It’s outperforming other well-known movies like The Bluff, The Wrecking Crew, Afterburn, and Sidelined: The QB and Me. Only Mercy, starring Chris Pratt, is currently more popular than Agent Zeta (also known simply as Zeta).
The film Agent Zeta has been a top 10 hit in many countries worldwide, such as Canada, Argentina, Australia, and several European and South American nations. However, it hasn’t cracked the top 10 in the United States.
Directed by Dani de la Torre, Agent Zeta is an action-packed espionage thriller. Unlike the Bourne movies, it doesn’t involve amnesia, but it does focus on mystery and intrigue. The film stars Mario Casas as Agent Zeta, who investigates the coordinated murders of four Spanish intelligence officers. His investigation leads him to a shadowy figure known only as Casiel.
Rotten Tomatoes doesn’t have enough reviews yet to give the movie an overall score, but of the few available, most are positive. Critics at EscribiendoCine and Cinemanía acknowledged the film follows a predictable plot, but both found it exciting and entertaining, thanks to plenty of action. They also highlighted a particularly strong performance by actor Luis Zahera.
Ricardo Casas and Natalia de Molina star in Agent Zeta, alongside Mariela Garriga, Christian Tappan, Cristina Umaña, Nieve de Medina, and Nora Navas. Casas is known for his work in films such as La cena, Control Room, and Bird Box: Barcelona, while de Molina has appeared in Me has robado el corazón and Tierra de nadie.
Many American viewers might recognize actress Pom Klementieff, who played Marie in flashback scenes in the 2023 film Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning. While a smaller role, it featured her alongside Tom Cruise.
While it’s unclear what the future holds for the Bourne series, and whether Matt Damon will return for another film, Agent Zeta appears to offer a similar experience that should satisfy fans until the next installment. It’s too early to say if the movie will continue to perform well on streaming platforms, but it’s gotten off to a promising beginning.
