People are constantly searching for new shows to enjoy on the weekends, and they especially love when those options are free and legal. This weekend, a popular, though often debated, series will be available to U.S. viewers completely free of charge.
Originally starting as a short online anime-inspired project by Rooster Teeth in 2013, RWBY has become a huge franchise with nine seasons, movies teaming up with DC’s Justice League, video games, comics, novels, and several spin-off shows. If you’re curious about what makes this long-running series so popular, you can now watch the entire RWBY series for free during a weekend marathon from February 21st to 22nd.
RWBY Gets New Free Streaming Home This Week Ahead of New Volume 10 Release
This week, @OfficialRWBY announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Volume 1 of RWBY is now streaming on PlutoTV. The rest of the series’ volumes will be added throughout the week, and a full RWBY marathon will be available on the Pluto TV app February 21st and 22nd.
RWBY is set in the world of Remnant, a place filled with both advanced technology and fantastical elements. The story mainly follows four young women – Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna, and Yang Xiao Long – as they train to become Huntresses. Their goal is to protect humanity from dangerous creatures called Grimm, as well as a variety of other enemies.
Fans love this series for its charming characters, detailed world-building, diverse and flexible power systems, and its ability to blend serious moments with humor. The early episodes, particularly those directed by the late Monty Oum, are famous for their incredibly dynamic and exciting action sequences – some of the best ever seen in anime.
The ninth volume of the original RWBY animated series finished in April 2023 with its 116th episode, leading many to think the show was over, particularly after Rooster Teeth closed. However, a lot has changed since then. Viz Media acquired the rights to RWBY last year, and Bernie Burns, one of Rooster Teeth’s co-founders, is now involved in continuing the series, though not necessarily through direct production.
This weekend is perfect for anyone new to RWBY to finally see what all the excitement is about, and for longtime U.S. fans to enjoy a re-watch of their favorite episodes.
