Jack Black has revealed his ideal Marvel Cinematic Universe role, but it seems it’s no longer available. Several actors have already played the part: Michael Chiklis in 2005, Jamie Bell in a later, unsuccessful attempt, and most recently, Ebon Moss-Bachrach in the newest iteration of the team. Black is disappointed, as he had hoped to take on the character himself.
It’s clear we’re discussing Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, from the Fantastic Four. Keith David Black would have been fantastic in that role, bringing both humor and surprising dramatic ability. He’s proven he can add depth to comedic characters, as seen in roles like Miles in The Holiday and Dewey in School of Rock.

Fans have been enthusiastically suggesting Jack Black for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years, with lots of online discussion about which character he’d be perfect for. On Reddit and Facebook, people have dedicated entire threads to brainstorming ideas. One popular suggestion is M.O.D.O.K., and fans have even detailed how the character could look – proposing a robotic body similar to the one in Quantumania, but with a more expressive face to avoid the ‘uncanny valley’ effect. Some have gone even further, imagining a whole “Council of M.O.D.O.K.s” featuring Jack Black alongside other comedic actors like Kyle Gass, Patton Oswalt, and Brian Posehn.
Several other roles were proposed, including Mad Jim Jaspers, Mole Man, and Arcade. The most amusing suggestion was for Jack Black to play a version of himself – someone eager to become an Avenger, but with only his real-life abilities, like being a rock star. The Marvel Cinematic Universe could definitely use Black’s comedic style, making any of these roles a good choice.
