James Gunn Celebrates Classic Superman Moment Ahead of Sequel Filming

Recently, a comic book writer praised Batman as the greatest and most important superhero ever. While James Gunn is involved in both The Batman: Part II—an independent story—and a version of Batman for the main DC Universe, it doesn’t seem he agrees with that writer’s vision of Batman or Superman.

Actually, the situation is likely the reverse. James Gunn seems completely dedicated to building his DC Universe around Superman, as evidenced by the upcoming 2025 film starring David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan. The fact that he’s following that movie with a Supergirl film featuring Milly Alcock strongly suggests that Superman is the franchise he’s most passionate about.

He also recently shared on social media about a famous scene from Superman history: when Clark Kent and Lois Lane first met at the Daily Planet almost 90 years ago in the iconic Action Comics #1.

James Gunn celebrated the anniversary of Superman and Lois Lane, noting they’ve been protecting the world and sharing its stories since their debut in 1938. Their first appearance was in ACTION COMICS #1, created by writer Jerry Siegel and artists Joe Shuster, and Gunn indicated they have no intention of stopping their adventures.
