James Gunn Officially Confirms Man Of Tomorrow’s Time Jump After Superman In DCU Timeline

James Gunn has shared how much time will pass in the DC Universe between the films Superman and Man of Tomorrow.

A fan asked James Gunn, the filmmaker leading DC Studios, how much time passes between the Superman movie and the Man of Tomorrow project. Gunn simply stated, “Basically real time.” Another fan then asked if that meant the upcoming HBO series Lanterns, with its dual timelines, would occur both before and after Superman. Gunn clarified that wasn’t the case, explaining that “real time” means around summer 2027.

As a big movie fan, I love following James Gunn online. He’s always sharing little sneak peeks of what he’s working on – recently, he even posted a ‘fit check’ from the set of his Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow! He’s become a real favorite of mine, especially because of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy he did for Marvel, and then his work with DC on The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker. He just gets these superhero worlds.

When Warner Bros.’s initial attempt to build a shared universe of superhero films, similar to Marvel’s Cinematic Universe (known as the DC Extended Universe), didn’t succeed, James Gunn was hired to revitalize the franchise. He now leads DC Studios as co-CEO and co-chair, while also continuing to direct and write films within the DC Universe. His first project is Superman, scheduled for release in July 2025 and starring David Corenswet. The film was a box office success, earning $618.7 million, and received positive reviews, achieving an 83% ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
