James Gunn Reacts to Superman’s Rotten Tomatoes Score & Reviews

In its initial critiques, James Gunn’s version of Superman has flown high and garnered a decent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, prompting a response from the director. As the opening act of the rebooted DC Universe saga titled Gods and Monsters, Superman is set to premiere in theaters on July 11, 2025. David Corenswet takes on the role of Superman, and the film boasts an impressive cast that includes Nathan Fillion, Nicholas Hoult, Rachel Brosnahan, among others.

The 58-year-old director has just responded to Superman receiving a ‘fresh’ certification on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting one of the highest scores ever for a Superman film.

Just released reviews for the forthcoming DCU film have been positive so far, leaving critics quite impressed. At present, it boasts a 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel in this regard.

Initially, critics haven’t hesitated to praise this film. They’ve even gone so far as to say that it’s among the finest adaptations of Superman from a comic book.

Simultaneously, Hoai-Tran Bui from Inverse described the film as “spectacularly explosive” and penned, “Right from the start of this vibrantly colorful and excessively heartfelt comic book adventure, it’s evident that Gunn adores Superman so much that his affection seems on the verge of spilling over.
