James Gunn has explained that the upcoming HBO Max series about Jimmy Olsen will also feature the famous DC villain, Gorilla Grodd.
Skyler Gisondo will return as Daily Planet reporter Olsen in the upcoming Superman spin-off series, which was originally announced last November.
James Gunn has announced that Gorilla Grodd, a villain from the Flash comics, will be a main character in the upcoming series, starring Elizabeth Olsen. Production is expected to begin shortly.
In a recent post on Threads, he described the upcoming project as having elements of both Jimmy Olsen and Gorilla Grodd stories, calling it a favorite and announcing that filming will begin shortly.
When asked if the Olsen-focused show had shifted to center around Grodd, the creator explained that hadn’t happened. He stated the show has remained consistent with its original vision, and he’d actually pitched it as part of a larger plan even before joining DC.

As a total movie buff, I often find trailers or clips embedded from Instagram here on the site. They let me know before anything loads because Instagram, like most platforms, uses cookies to track things. Basically, if I want to see those videos – and trust me, I usually do! – I need to give them the okay to load it.
Last year, Variety announced the show as a true crime documentary hosted by Olsen, with the initial season dedicated to the story of Grodd.
The report claimed the series would be called ‘DC Crime,’ but James Gunn quickly denied this on the social media platform, Threads.

He wrote in separate post: “It is not and has never been called DC Crime.”
The release date for the Olsen and Grodd show is yet to be confirmed.
