James Marsden to star in Apple TV thriller series Disavowed

James Marsden is set to lead the Apple TV thriller series, Disavowed, according to Variety. He will play Brad Griffin, a renowned CIA officer who is unexpectedly dismissed while tracking a dangerous, hard-to-find assassin.

After the murder of his coworker, a former officer now hunts for an assassin with a $15 million federal reward on their head. The series comes from an original concept by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, and is executive produced by Tom Spezialy, Walter Marsden, and Theresa Kang and Caroline Garity of Blue Marble Pictures.

Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (credited as Marcum and Holloway) wrote the screenplay for the 2008 film Iron Man, which Jon Favreau directed and starred Robert Downey Jr. The movie was a huge financial success, earning over $585 million worldwide, and it launched the incredibly popular Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The creators of the Uncharted movies, featuring Mark Wahlberg and Tom Holland, are now making their first TV show, Disavowed. Apple Studios is partnering with Blue Marble Pictures to produce it.

James Marsden continues his work with Apple, currently appearing alongside Jon Hamm in the second season of “Your Friends and Neighbors.” He’s received Emmy recognition for his work on Hulu’s “Paradise” and earned both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for the Amazon series “Jury Duty.” He’s also starring in Hulu films “Mike and Nick” and “Nick and Alice,” and will return as Cyclops in the upcoming “Avengers Doomsday.” His other television roles include appearances in “Westworld,” “Dead to Me,” and “30 Rock.”

Development on Disavowed started around July 2025, with the initial casting process. Taylor Marsden received an offer to join the project in September, and it took another eight months for the project to officially move forward. Marsden is represented by CAA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
