Jamie Lee Curtis is mourning her ex-boyfriend Robert Carradine.
Following the news of Curtis Armstrong’s death at age 71 on February 23rd, actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who once called him her “first love,” reminisced about how they met and the cherished memories from their time together.
Jamie shared on Instagram on February 24th that she was saddened to hear about the passing of Robert Carradine. She posted a black and white photo of them together and recalled meeting him on The Dinah Shore Show. At the time, the show featured a group of actors who, as she put it, came from acting families – what people now call ‘nepo babies’.
Jamie, whose parents were famous actors Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, and Robert, son of John Carradine and Sonia Sorel, were both striving for success in Hollywood. The Oscar winner remembered an incident on a talk show where Robert moved the seating arrangement to be next to her and then kissed her on live television.
Jamie described their relationship beginning with what she called a “very public meet cute.” She explained that she later met Robert’s three-year-old daughter, Ever Carradine, while at the hospital. Ever is Robert’s child with his former partner, Susan Snyder.
The 67-year-old remembered meeting Ever, now a successful actress, while she was recovering in the burn unit from a severe hot water injury. He was struck by her incredible spirit – she was a young girl covered in bandages, yet she had a huge smile and beautiful eyes.
Eventually, Jamie and their partner moved in together, and Jamie often remembered their time living in a charming, rustic house with a dirt floor in Laurel Canyon.
The cast of Freaky Friday felt like a close-knit family, and it was the first time I experienced what it was like to live at home, be a mother, and be in a committed relationship, she wrote about their time living together in the Hollywood Hills.
You know, I often think back to those early days living in Laurel Canyon. I remember simple moments – walking with my daughter, Ever, to the local market, even just the everyday task of doing laundry together at the little laundromat downstairs. Folding her tiny clothes felt so special then. It was a really beautiful, uncomplicated time, living there in the late 70s.
Jamie recalled a specific memory of learning about Robert’s death, sharing that Melanie Griffith was the one who told her. Melanie, who later dated Robert after their split, has remained a close, supportive friend to Jamie ever since.
She wrote that her friend Bobby was a racecar driver who drove a Corvette very fast on Mulholland Drive. She recalled a time when she realized he looked familiar – she suddenly remembered seeing him in the movie The Cowboys and realized he’d played the character Slim. She admitted he was her first celebrity crush and she hadn’t connected it until that moment.

Jamie, whose husband Christopher Guest also appeared with Robert in the western movie The Long Riders, finished her message with a warm and touching message for her former partner.
She explained that they stayed friends even after their relationship ended, just as she and Ever did. She finished with a heartfelt message, saying, “It’s been a difficult journey. Rest peacefully, with laughter and love, Bobby.”
Robert, who is survived by his children Marika and Ian, and his wife Edith Mani, passed away after a long struggle with bipolar disorder, his family announced.
The family of Robert Carradine announced with deep sorrow that he has passed away, as reported by Deadline on February 23rd. They described him as a source of light and joy to all who knew him, and expressed their immense grief at the loss of his kind spirit.
They expressed hope that his story would help reduce the shame surrounding mental health challenges. They also requested privacy as they mourn this devastating loss, and thanked everyone for their support and kindness.
Okay, so you think Jamie and Robert were a shock? Trust me, that’s just the tip of the iceberg! I’ve been digging, and I’ve found SO many other celebrity couples that will absolutely blow your mind. Seriously, keep scrolling – you won’t believe who dated who!
