Jared Leto’s Wild Method Acting Leaves Co-Stars Stunned on Tron Set!

Jared Leto, known for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, considers himself a dedicated fan of the 1982 movie Tron, but his colleagues from Suicide Squad might use another term to describe him – “Method”. Famous for his commitment to roles, Leto immersed himself deeply as the Joker during the filming of Suicide Squad in 2016. He went beyond the norm by gifting cast members with items such as a dead pig, live rat, used condoms, and anal beads. However, it’s worth noting that in June, allegations of sexual misconduct were made against Leto, which he has since denied. Leto himself stated that “the Joker is someone who doesn’t care about personal space or boundaries.

However, contrary to Jared Leto’s preference for Method acting, Jeff Bridges, his co-star in the upcoming “Tron: Ares”, chose not to address him using his character’s name. In this film, Leto portrays Ares, a complex Program developed by the Dillinger corporation, which is run by Elisabeth (played by Gillian Anderson) and her son Julian Dillinger (portrayed by Evan Peters).

Director Joachim Rønning shares in the August 2025 issue of Empire Magazine that on set, Leto chose to stay quiet and avoid conversation, a behavior some cast members found intimidating. However, this was reportedly his method for portraying his character effectively.

According to Empire, Leto “maintained his character both on and off camera during the entire filming process.” In conversation with Rønning, he added, “Even when I spoke to him, it felt like I needed to assume a role myself.” As the director of Master Control, Leto’s portrayal of Ares was like the commander of the Grid, so Rønning described treating him with respect. When Ares would arrive on set, everyone would straighten up a bit in response.

In the new movie, only Bridges, returning as Kevin Flynn from the original Tron and 2010’s Tron: Legacy. “Since I’m Flynn, the one who created that entire world, I felt I could call him whatever I pleased,” Bridges said in an interview. “I respected his wish to be called Ares instead of constantly switching names, but as Flynn, I felt a certain uniqueness, so on set, I referred to him as ‘Air.’ Flynn sees himself as being above it all.

As a passionate cinephile, I’d share my experience wearing the 40-pound weighted suit for my role as Program: it wasn’t easy to avoid immersion. The hefty suit ensured I felt every pound, placing me squarely in the midst of the action. It was challenging and painful at times, but there was an undeniable thrill that came with it. I always relished slipping into that futuristic warrior attire. The suit dictated not just my movements, but also how I held myself, how I walked – so much of the character was embedded in the suit. Wearing that suit didn’t feel like putting on clothing; it felt like stepping into another world.

In the long-awaited third installment of the “Tron” series, the character Ares is dispatched from the digital realm into our physical world on a perilous assignment, representing humanity’s initial interaction with artificial intelligence entities. Greta Lee, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, and Cameron Monaghan are among the star-studded cast.

Tron: Ares opens only in theaters October 10.
