Jason Kelce Says Living a “Normal Life” With Family Is Getting Harder

The Kelce family’s fame has reached new heights.

Since announcing his retirement from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024, Jason Kelce has received a lot more attention. The 38-year-old has said this increased spotlight has changed how he and his wife, Kylie Kelce, go about daily life with their four young daughters: 6-year-old Wyatt, 4-year-old Elliotte, 2-year-old Bennett, and 9-month-old Finnley.

In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Jason explained that being a public figure has changed things, especially when he’s out in public. He noted that this impacts not only him, but his wife and entire family as well, due to his increased visibility.

Jason Kelce, who has been married to Kylie since 2018, and his brother Travis Kelce, a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs, have recently gained a lot of attention. This is partly due to their podcast, New Heights, and also because Travis is dating Taylor Swift.

Even with all the public attention, Jason insists that he and Kylie are staying grounded and aren’t letting their fame change their family. He explained they really try to live as normally as possible, though it’s getting harder. They’re finding ways to manage, like still going to places like Disney World and enjoying themselves, even if they take a few extra pictures along the way.

Jason has been spending more time taking photos with Taylor, especially after she and Travis helped his podcast reach record numbers of listeners earlier this year. Despite this, Jason insists their connection is purely platonic and based on family ties, not professional interests.

He told the Wall Street Journal they’ve intentionally avoided getting too involved in his brother’s romantic relationship. He said he’s happy for his brother and his future wife, and enjoys their role as aunt and uncle to his children, preferring to keep their own relationship separate.

Still the “Blank Space” singer’s business savvy is an inspiration to the ESPN analyst.
 

It’s really impressive to see how she’s managed her career – regaining ownership of her music, touring the world, and still finding time to write a new album. She’s clearly in control, but also knows how to let the experts around her do their jobs, and it’s just fascinating to watch.

Jason wasn’t sure if Taylor’s actions at her and Travis’s wedding would be influenced by anything. He said it’s still an open question.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce first connected in July 2023 when Swift’s Eras Tour came to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Being a big Taylor Swift fan, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end wanted to give Taylor a personalized friendship bracelet with his jersey number on it. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to reach her because she was busy preparing for the show.

Travis explained on his podcast, New Heights, that he was a little upset Taylor Swift didn’t talk before or after her concerts. He understood she needed to protect her voice for the 44 songs she performs, but he was hoping to give her one of the friendship bracelets he’d made.

After jokingly talking about dropping the football – something he’d later call incredibly cool – Travis decided to take a chance and invited the famous singer to come see the Chiefs play at their home stadium, Arrowhead.

He said on The Pat McAfee Show that he challenged Taylor Swift, suggesting she come to one of his concerts at Arrowhead Stadium after seeing him perform there, to see whose show is more exciting. He indicated something might happen soon.

Travis had grown a mustache, first showing it off in August during football training camp, and that’s how Taylor first met him.

He later recalled that his mustache and number 87 jersey were a memorable look during that time, and he was sporting them when he first met Taylor.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Travis and Taylor began communicating by text and phone calls around the beginning of September, according to TopMob News.

“It’s been very low-key,” the insider explained, “as he’s been in season.”

Taylor accepted Travis Kelce’s invitation and went to Arrowhead Stadium to see him and the Kansas City Chiefs play the Chicago Bears, accompanied by Travis’s mother, Donna Kelce. After the game, Taylor and Travis were photographed showing affection for each other at a nearby bar.

Despite rumors that they first met in person at the time, the singer of “Karma” later explained that they had actually known each other for quite a while before that.

As Taylor noted, “We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.” 

To show how serious things were getting, Taylor brought a group of her close friends – including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Hugh Jackman, Sabrina Carpenter, and Antoni Porowski – to see the Chiefs play the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Taylor Swift seems to be getting close to Brittany Mahomes, wife of Travis Kelce’s best friend and teammate, Patrick Mahomes, both at and away from NFL games. This could be another hint that Taylor and Travis are a couple.

The couple publicly showcased their relationship with a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 14th. They continued the celebration with the show’s after-party and a romantic dinner at the Waverly Inn.

During his team’s break, Travis flew to Argentina to see Taylor Swift perform on her Eras Tour. While there on November 11th in Buenos Aires, he connected with Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, and even received a mention from Taylor during the show.

“Karma is that guy on the Chiefs,” Taylor sang, “coming straight home to me.”

Following the performance, Taylor Swift reportedly rushed backstage and enthusiastically kissed Travis Kelce.

Taylor addressed the lavender craze surrounding her appearances at Travis’ games.

She told Time magazine that she and her partner are comfortable being seen together and supporting each other’s passions, not caring what others think. This is a stark contrast to situations where people go to great lengths to keep relationships secret.

 

The famous singer made Travis’ game on December 17th a family event, bringing her father along to support her boyfriend.

Taylor and Travis rang in the New Year together, and shared a kiss at midnight on January 1st.

Taylor continued getting to know Travis’ family and spent time with his brother, Jason Kelce, and sister-in-law, Kylie Kelce, while attending the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills.

After the Chiefs won the AFC Championship and secured their place in the 2024 Super Bowl, Taylor joined Travis on the field. They celebrated with a kiss and then told each other ‘I love you’ for the first time.

“Tay, I’m gonna enjoy with the guys,” he told her. “I love you—so much it’s not funny.”

 
 

After Travis helped the Kansas City Chiefs win on February 11, 2024, in Las Vegas, he and his partner shared a kiss on the field.

On February 12th, Taylor shared a video of Travis on social media, jokingly showing how she brought her parents to a club with him after the Super Bowl.

Taylor Swift, a self-proclaimed big fan of the New Heights podcast, appeared on an extended, almost two-hour-long episode with Travis and Jason Kelce on August 13th. During the conversation, she openly shared details about her life with Travis, both publicly and privately, and announced the title of her upcoming twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, which will be released on October 3rd.

Over two years after Travis mentioned Taylor on his podcast – a moment that quickly went viral – the couple announced their engagement. In a playful nod to Taylor’s song “So High School,” they shared a photo of their engagement on Instagram with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
