Andy Samberg is about to star in an action comedy, and he recently shared some good news about how the film is coming along.
Netflix announced in Summer 2025 that it has acquired an action-comedy film starring Andy Samberg and Jason Momoa. The script will be written by Rob Klein and John Solomon, both of whom have a history of Emmy-nominated work on Saturday Night Live, with a combined 19 nominations. Samberg and Momoa are also producing the movie, currently without a title, through their respective production companies, Party Over Here and On The Roam.
After seven months with no news about the movie, Andy Samberg shared a positive update on his upcoming Netflix action-comedy with Jason Momoa. While promoting a Super Bowl ad for Hellmann’s and Best Foods, Samberg told ScreenRant that they’re aiming to start filming in 2026. He said the script is developing nicely and that the creative team, including Klein and Solomon, is nearing completion.
Samberg chuckled, explaining that the delay was partly because Jason Momoa is appearing in so many projects this year. He remembered telling Momoa, whom he called a “dynamo,” just before the interview that he seemed to be in every single movie trailer. Coincidentally, the interview happened on the same day a new teaser for Supergirl revealed a full look at Momoa’s character, Lobo, which Samberg found incredibly cool, saying, “God, he’s so cool.”
I’m really excited about this new project! I wrote it with my friends Rob Klein and John Solomon – we all used to work together on SNL, and they’ve both gone on to do amazing things. They’re hilarious, and I love working with them. It’s coming to Netflix, and I’m hoping it will be really funny and a big hit.
As Andy Samberg mentioned, Jason Momoa is staying very busy, with five films scheduled to be released by 2026. He started the year strong with the action comedy The Wrecking Crew, co-starring Dave Bautista. The movie has been number one on Prime Video for almost two weeks and has received mostly good reviews. Its success has even led to early discussions about making a sequel, involving Momoa, Bautista, director Ángel Manuel Soto, and writer Jonathan Tropper.
Besides Supergirl, which comes out in June, Jason Momoa voiced a character in the upcoming comedy Animal Friends, also expected in June, though it hasn’t been advertised yet. He’ll then star in the Street Fighter reboot as Blanka in October, followed by his return as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part Three in December.
Even with a packed schedule, filming for the upcoming Netflix action comedy starring Momoa and Samberg could begin within the next few months if the script is finalized. Currently, Momoa has finished filming all his other projects scheduled for 2026, leaving him with some free time, aside from promotional work for those films.
It’s smart for Momoa and Samberg to start working on their movie now, before the actor commits to other big projects. He recently said that filming for Minecraft Movie 2, scheduled for release in July 2027, will begin soon. He’s also likely to reprise his role in Fast Forever (2028) and the Hobbs & Reyes spin-off alongside Dwayne Johnson.
No matter when filming starts, Andy Samberg remains enthusiastic about the upcoming Netflix action comedy he’s making with Jason Momoa. Samberg has been consistently busy lately, working on projects like a new version of The Roses, creating and starring in Digman! for Comedy Central, and voicing characters in popular movies like Zootopia 2. His continued dedication to this film, alongside director Shawn Levy, Solomon and Momoa, should keep fans excited.
