Jason Momoa is set to be very busy this year with roles in films like Dune: Part Three, Supergirl, and the new Street Fighter movie. Fans are especially excited to see him back on television, something he hasn’t done much since playing Khal Drogo in the first two seasons of Game of Thrones. He’s returning in a series that was originally cancelled in 2019 when its licensing expired, and it’s currently available on Netflix, but may only be there for six months, so don’t miss it!
The story of The Red Road begins when a college student vanishes from a quiet New Jersey town. As local sheriff Harold Jensen (Martin Henderson) investigates, his own life begins to fall apart. The search leads him to the nearby mountains, home to a Native American tribe not officially recognized by the government. Jensen soon encounters Phillip Kopus (Momoa), a former convict and member of the tribe, whose return could disrupt the fragile peace in town.
Despite Mixed Reviews, There Is Serious Potential In The Red Road
Okay, so I really enjoyed The Red Road, but it seems the critics were a bit lukewarm – it only got a 67% on Rotten Tomatoes. Thankfully, audiences seemed to get it more, giving it an 86% on the Popcornmeter! I think a lot of the criticism came down to the writing. One reviewer, Andy Greenwald, put it perfectly: the show really let Jason Momoa dominate everything, and while he’s amazing, it kind of flattened out any real tension. He said strong characters need a strong show to support them, and that really hit home. Another critic, Tim Goodman, agreed, saying the performances from Momoa and Julia Henderson were fantastic, but they deserved a better story! It’s frustrating because you’re watching these two deliver, but you just wish the plot was giving them more to work with instead of getting bogged down in unnecessary side stories.
As a film buff, I’ve been reading the reactions to this show, and people are really passionate about it! One viewer put it perfectly – they think it’s a masterpiece, brilliantly written, produced, and just plain entertaining from start to finish. They even joked the creators should run Hollywood! Lots of people are saying the same thing – it’s incredibly engaging and the characters feel so real, with moments of genuine humor. Honestly, the biggest complaint? Everyone’s desperate for more! There’s a huge groundswell of support for Netflix to pick it up and finish the story – and honestly, Netflix, you should seriously consider it. It sounds like a winner!
