Action star Jason Statham will play a version of himself in a new, large-scale action-comedy directed by David Leitch, known for films like Bullet Train and The Fall Guy. The movie, cleverly titled Jason Statham Stole My Bike, is written by Alison Flierl, who worked on BoJack Horseman, and is expected to cost around $80 million to produce.

Although details about the story are still scarce, the movie will likely be a playful and humorous one, and Jason Statham will probably lean into the tough-guy image he’s known for.

Deadline reports the movie will feature several large-scale action sequences, which is expected considering Jason Statham’s role and David Leitch’s experience with stunts.

Look, Jason Statham stepping in to play himself in a self-aware movie isn’t exactly groundbreaking. We’ve seen this before, and honestly, it’s often brilliant. Think about John Malkovich being John Malkovich, or Nicolas Cage hilariously sending up his own persona in ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.’ It’s a fun trope, and Statham’s joining a pretty interesting club.

It certainly sounds like a fun proposition, and we’ll be on the lookout for any further updates.

Jason Statham’s new movie, Shelter, came out in late January. In an interview with TopMob, Statham explained he was attracted to the film because of its strong emotional story.
