Just as Jason Voorhees, the gruesome figure from Crystal Lake, would unexpectedly rise from the water to strike terror in the 1980’s movie “Friday the 13th”, this hockey-masked, machete-wielding killer has a knack for appearing when you least suspect it. Following the commencement of filming for the “Crystal Lake” prequel series on Peacock, Horror, Inc., the franchise owners, have announced another upcoming movie within the “Jason Universe”.
Sweet Revenge,” a grisly short tale from horror director Mike P. Nelson (known for his work in Wrong Turn and V/H/S/85), is planned to debut on YouTube this summer as the focal point of the franchise’s daring 45th anniversary promotion.
Initially reported by Variety, the short film titled “Jason Universe: Sweet Revenge” is backed by Angry Orchard Hard Cider. As suggested in the synopsis, viewers are promised a thrilling weekend in the woods with gory twists that can only be expected from Jason.
Nelson is responsible for penning, overseeing, and managing the production of the Friday the 13th/Angry Orchard collaboration. A sneak peek at this project was recently shared by the official Jason Universe social media account on Instagram (take a look here).
Despite the fact that a new Friday the 13th movie isn’t expected until 2027, the film Sweet Revenge offers fans a glimpse of Jason’s antics before the Peacock series Crystal Lake arrives on screen.
30 years ago, I was just a secretive horror fanatic peeking at Jason Voorhees tales on old VHS tapes when no one was around. Fast forward to now, and I’m beyond elated that the Horror, Inc. team saw potential in ‘Sweet Revenge’ and decided to include it as part of the Jason Voorhees saga! It’s a dream come true for me to write and direct one of these iconic stories, especially with an exceptional team led by Chad Villella and Brianna Lee Johnson guiding me through this journey.
This vignette isn’t just another addition to the beloved IP; it’s a warm, grisly embrace that reminds us why we fell in love with these movies. It promises plenty of gory fun for you!
On Friday, 13th LLC’s Marc Toberoff, managing the Jason Universe along with Friday the 13th franchise creator Victor Miller and Horror, Inc.’s Robert M. Barsamian and Robert P. Barsamian stated: “Jason has always been a significant influence in popular culture, and the 45th anniversary presented an ideal opportunity to create something genuinely surprising. Working together with Horror, Inc. and Angry Orchard, who share our enthusiasm, provides a fresh avenue for fan interaction. It’s thrilling to observe the franchise growing so creatively while maintaining its iconic essence.

Horror, Inc.’s Chief Marketing Officer, Sheri Conn, was extremely enthusiastic when Mike Nelson joined the team and Angry Orchard supported production. This enabled us to create an extraordinary project in a surprising, spine-tingling manner. In a brief scene, Nelson will skillfully embody our collective vision – preserving the legacy of the franchise while offering something innovative and exhilarating for the new audience.
The highly-anticipated show, titled “Sweet Revenge,” is set to debut on the authorized YouTube channel of Jason Universe this coming summer. In a tantalizing teaser, Jason Universe revealed their fresh mask and emblem, accompanied by music from Harry Manfredini, renowned composer of the “Friday the 13th” series. The reimagined Jason Voorhees, skillfully designed by Greg Nicotero (of “Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday”), was also unveiled in this teaser.
