Jelly Roll Shares Plans to Donate a Grammy to Local Nashville Jail

Jelly Roll hasn’t forgotten where he started.

Following his sweep of all three Grammy awards on February 1st, 2026, the country music star announced he will be donating one of his golden Gramophone trophies to a county jail in Nashville.

Jelly shared in an interview with Entertainment Tonight on February 4th that she plans to keep one of the awards at her studio, fulfilling a long-held dream. She intends to donate the other award to Sheriff Daron Hall to display in the local jail.

It was so great seeing Sarah Michelle Gellar, my fellow Star Search costar, join Jason in the interview! She chimed in at one point, and it was just perfect – she was really getting at the idea that things don’t end with one role, there’s always more to come.

Even the 41-year-old, who is a father to 17-year-old Bailee and 9-year-old Noah, highlighted this point when accepting the award for his album Beautifully Broken, which won Best Contemporary Country Album.

I went through a really difficult time in my life,” he explained. “That’s what inspired this album. I felt completely hopeless, and I even had some very dark thoughts. I wasn’t proud of the person I was back then.

Jelly, who married Bunnie XO in 2016, shared a personal story, holding up a small bible. He recalled a time when he was in a small cell, with only this bible and a radio, and how he believed they could help him turn his life around.

Jelly thought back to his 2008 jail time for drug possession and shared what helped him stay strong and ultimately change his life for the better.

He explained that he felt music and faith in God could transform a person’s life. He emphasized, ‘Jesus is for everyone.’

Jelly has always been honest about his past, sharing that he spent a significant part of his life in and out of jail – around 40 times. But things changed dramatically when his daughter was born in 2008.

He explained on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2023 that he earned his GED through a program advertised at the facility. He didn’t have a clear plan for the future, but he was determined to leave drug dealing behind for good.

Jelly’s success wasn’t the only heartwarming moment at the Grammys. Find out about other winners from the 2026 show by continuing to read…
