It’s well known that Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow both dated Brad Pitt, but surprisingly, they first met through a mutual friend – David Schwimmer from the show Friends – back in the 1990s when he filmed a movie with Paltrow. While they’ve likely talked about their shared ex, Aniston recently shared something she really appreciates about Paltrow and their long-lasting friendship.
Jennifer Aniston recently appeared on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, where she talked candidly about many things, including clarifying some misunderstandings about her previous comments on the Met Gala. She also explained what she believes makes Gwyneth Paltrow so successful as a public figure, saying:
She completely embodies a carefree attitude. It’s something many people could learn from – she just doesn’t worry about what others think, and that’s admirable.
As a total fan, I definitely remember seeing Jennifer Aniston on every grocery store magazine cover back in the early 2000s! She just talked about it in a new interview, and it’s so sad – she said she’s been on over 2,000 covers! She admitted she took it all really personally, because when she was younger, she actually believed those crazy headlines when she saw them. It’s wild to think about how much that must have affected her.
Shepard explained that she and Paltrow were still close friends, and she praised the Iron Man actress for being a supportive person to lean on when dealing with the pressures of fame. The Friends actress admitted she’s always struggled to understand why people feel entitled to details about her private life.
Jennifer Aniston has spoken about the difficulties of fame, and often turns to Gwyneth Paltrow for perspective on how to not let public criticism bother her. She’s also shared her approach to dealing with constant media attention these days.
I’ve reached a point where I don’t dwell on things, and I’ve realized it’s okay to let go. Ultimately, what’s important is that we’re all still here. I’m grateful for my work and I’m lucky to have a wonderful group of friends who truly know me, and that’s enough.
Jennifer Aniston has developed a strong ability to cope with being constantly in the public eye, but it took years of experience. Having worked in the entertainment industry for almost four decades, navigating the pressures hasn’t been simple. Gwyneth Paltrow has faced similar intense media scrutiny, from the widespread attention around her 2014 announcement of “consciously uncoupling” from Chris Martin, to a highly publicized ski accident in 2023, and even the controversy surrounding her Goop-branded candles.
It appears that being unbothered by criticism and not worrying too much about what others think is key to lasting fame, and Jennifer Aniston believes Gwyneth Paltrow excels at this!
