Jeremy Renner Doubles Down on Legal Threats Over Alleged Narration in AI Project

Both Jeremy Allen White and filmmaker Yi Zhou are strongly defending their perspectives on Zhou’s AI-powered film. This follows recent criticism directed at actor Jeremy Allen White, known for his role in Mayor of Kingstown.

Actor Jeremy Renner is disputing claims made by filmmaker Zhou, alleging she’s using his voice in her new AI animated film without his permission. He’s threatened a lawsuit for a substantial amount of money. However, Zhou counters that Renner did agree in writing to be involved in the film, titled Stardust Future: Stars and Scars.

On November 11th, Zhou shared a portion of a memo on Instagram, claiming it was signed by Renner and confirmed his involvement in her film. She criticized anyone who would question the memo’s authenticity, calling it “disgraceful.” A screenshot of her full post is available below.

According to a letter sent by Jeremy Renner’s lawyer, Marty Singer, on November 7th, Renner and Zhou only had a brief, consensual encounter in July 2025. The letter claims they were never in a romantic relationship and that Zhou actively pursued Renner. Singer warned Zhou that if she continued to spread false and sensational stories, she would face legal consequences. The letter also alleges that Zhou threatened to publicly damage Renner’s reputation if he didn’t help promote her documentary, Chronicles of Disney.

In a letter, Mr. Singer stated that his client kindly agreed to be featured in your Disney documentary. However, he was dismayed to learn you are also claiming his client narrated an animated film created entirely by artificial intelligence. His client has no involvement with and did not authorize the use of their voice or likeness in any AI-generated project beyond the Disney documentary. The letter warns that any further use of his client’s name, image, or voice in connection with other entertainment projects – beyond the July 12, 2025 interview for the Disney documentary – will result in significant legal action for misuse of their public image rights.

Renner’s Involvement with an AI-Generated Movie

According to a statement given to Deadline, the documentary’s producer, John Singer, said Jeremy Renner only agreed to participate in one interview for Chronicles of Disney. Singer also questioned whether the voiceover in Stardust Future is actually Renner, or if it was created using AI technology based on his voice recording from the Chronicles of Disney documentary.

According to Zhou, the voice heard in the film Stardust Future genuinely belongs to Jeremy Renner. He emphasized that using AI to recreate someone’s voice without their permission is illegal. Renner was set to narrate the film, with proceeds going to the Into the Sun Foundation and the Motion Picture & Television Fund. However, people close to Renner have expressed surprise about his involvement with Stardust Future.

Responding to recent concerns, Zhou clarified in a statement to Deadline that she only uses AI to help with the creative and visual parts of her work. She emphasized that AI cannot create official screenshots or legally binding contracts, and attempting to do so would be a form of document forgery and illegal.

According to Deadline, they reached out to Singer, who confirmed there haven’t been any new developments or court filings since the weekend.
