Krysten Ritter returns as Jessica Jones in the new trailer. It’s been a while since fans last saw her, and things have changed. In the trailer, Jessica confronts Matt Murdock, angrily explaining that a team—likely the one formed by Mayor Fisk to target vigilantes—showed up at her home while her daughter was present.
This might be surprising to viewers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but comic book readers have been expecting this. In the Marvel Comics, Jessica Jones has a daughter, and Luke Cage is the father.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Confirms Jessica Jones’ Daughter
As a longtime Marvel reader, I remember when Jessica Jones and Luke Cage first got together back in the early 2000s. It was really cool to see them start a family, and their daughter, Danielle, actually debuted in The Pulse #14. Things moved pretty quickly after that – Luke proposed almost right away!
Since Luke was an Avenger, Danielle spent much of her childhood around superheroes. For a period, their family even lived at the Avengers Mansion.
Okay, so things are definitely…complicated in the Marvel world, and this show isn’t shying away from that. Right now, we’re still in the dark about who Jessica’s daughter’s father is – is it Luke Cage? Maybe! But even if it is, we have no clue if they’re a couple or just working together to raise their kid. What really adds to the tension is that Luke and Jessica aren’t Avengers. They’re operating on their own, which makes them incredibly vulnerable to Fisk’s new team that’s specifically targeting vigilantes. It’s a smart move for the story, honestly – they’re much more exposed without that Avengers safety net.
The release of this trailer coincides with a lot of speculation. There’s been talk of a possible return, but it’s not confirmed.
Is This the Next Step Toward Reassembling the Defenders?
Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage, and Finn Jones’ Iron Fist previously joined forces in the Netflix series The Defenders. There’s been recent talk that…
Jon Bernthal recently reprised his role as The Punisher (Frank Castle) in Daredevil: Born Again. Although Frank wasn’t with The Defenders, he was previously featured in Season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix, which led to his own series. Now that he’s back, Marvel is prominently featuring Frank, including a new Disney+ special and a role in Echo, a major crossover event connecting the MCU films with its more grounded TV shows.
As always, Marvel Studios isn’t revealing much about its future plans. Many fans are wondering if Luke Cage might appear in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, or if we’ll see the Defenders team up again. There’s also speculation about a potential Heroes for Hire spin-off series, but for now, we’ll have to wait to find out what Marvel has in store.
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 debut on Tuesdays on Disney+.
