Don’t be startled to see a familiar face on American Horror Story.
Production began on the thirteenth season of the FX anthology series on April 6th, offering fans a first look at Jessica Lange’s return to the show after a four-year absence.
Photos from the Ryan Murphy-produced show posted on Instagram show the two-time Oscar winner standing with her back to the camera, looking out a large arched window. She was wearing a knee-length blue dress with long sleeves and black heels, and her blonde hair was styled in a striking updo.
The post announced the start of filming for Season 13 of American Horror Story, with the exciting news that Jessica Lange is returning to the show.
Jessica Lange, 76, was a regular cast member for the first four seasons of American Horror Story. She later returned to the show in its eighth season, AHS: Apocalypse, reprising her role as Constance Langdon in a guest appearance.
However, she subsequently declared she was unlikely to revisit the franchise.
She explained to The Wrap in September 2019 that she took on the role because it reminded her of playing Constance. She felt the first season, Murder House, was a particularly significant time for her.
Plus,” Jessica said, “I really don’t want to build a character completely from the beginning.”
Despite initially being hesitant, the actress—known for her role in Grey Gardens—will appear in season 13 of American Horror Story. The season already boasts a star-studded cast including Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, and Ariana Grande. Ryan Murphy, the show’s creator, apparently talked her into returning, and this isn’t the first time he’s successfully convinced her to rejoin a project.
Jessica described her conversations with Ryan as consistently charming. In an interview with The Wrap that August, she said he’s incredibly persuasive – she even used the word ‘seductive’ – and has a knack for saying the right thing to the right person. She felt he understood her so well that he immediately knew how to connect with her.
