It’s been some time since there was news about John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando, the cooperative shooter created by Saber Interactive for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Focus Entertainment announced that it would be released in 2025, and according to a recent closed beta leak, this could still be accurate.
Despite being removed from the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, the images are still accessible online. In contrast to traditional gameplay where players move from one fixed location to another, missions now occur within open areas boasting multiple points of interest. These points can offer challenges, events, or allow you to continue with the main mission.
In addition to being important, vehicles such as trucks equipped with flamethrower turrets play a crucial role. You can fix some of them for operational use, and there’s even a mini-game dedicated to repairing a generator. The skill progression for the Medic class is demonstrated, with Striker, Operator, and Defender being among the other options. It appears that classes reach their maximum level at 40, with new skills becoming available upon reaching certain levels.
The original post, as reported by Insider-Gaming, further detailed that it includes a feature to personalize your equipment setup, try out weapons, and enhance gear prior to missions. This system allows you to progress several playable characters to higher levels and offers the option to select varying degrees of difficulty for increased replay worthiness.
It’s yet to be determined when it will be unveiled, but there’s a possibility it might happen during Gamescom in August. Keep an eye out for further information in the interim.
