I’m a huge fan of his, and I think he’s a fantastic choice for the role. I’m already looking forward to seeing his take on the classic character!
According to Deadline, the 62-year-old actor will star in a fresh adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic, A Christmas Carol, called Ebenezer, for the streaming service Paramount Plus.
Ti West, the director behind horror films like ‘Pearl’ and ‘Maxxxine’, will direct a new movie described as a spooky ghost story set in Victorian London. The film centers on a man confronting his past, present, and future as he tries to redeem himself.
Andrea Riseborough (Oblivion, Mandy) is also set to co-star.
According to reports, Paramount Plus hasn’t officially approved the film yet, but they’re in the last stages of discussion. If everything is finalized, the movie is currently slated for release on November 13, 2026.
This is the second movie adaptation of the Charles Dickens story announced this year. Willem Dafoe will play Scrooge in the new film, which will be directed by Robert Eggers, known for directing ‘Nosferatu,’ and produced by Warner Bros.
If the film Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol is made, it will be Johnny Depp’s most significant acting role in several years, coming after his win in the 2022 defamation case.
The actor has recently begun to reappear in the public eye, most notably with his role in the 2023 French film, Jeanne du Barry.
He will also be acting with Penélope Cruz in the upcoming Lionsgate action thriller, Day Drinker, scheduled for release in 2026.
Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, has hinted that Johnny Depp might return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a future film.
Jerry Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly that if an actor likes the script, he believes they’d be interested in the role. He emphasized that the quality of the writing is the most important factor, as is often the case.
