Johnny Depp Looks Unrecognizable As He Transforms for 2026 Hollywood Comeback Movie

Don’t count Johnny Depp out of Hollywood just yet! The actor is returning to the big screen with a new take on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Depp will star as Ebenezer Scrooge, a wealthy man who is forced to examine his life and change his ways after being visited by ghosts showing him his past, present, and potential future.

It’s clear what Johnny Depp is doing with this performance, but it’s also visually striking. He’s fully committed to another unusual role, and this could be a truly memorable one for him.

Johnny Depp Is Unrecognizable As Ebenezer Scrooge (Photos)

The Daily Mail UK has the first look at Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge, and the photos are quite striking. Depp appears as an older man with a noticeable paunch, scruffy hair, and a long beard and thick eyebrows. His makeup emphasizes a perpetually grumpy expression. The costumes, designed by Catherine George (known for her work on Mickey 17 and Succession), perfectly capture the look of the classic, isolated, and miserly Scrooge from the 19th century.

Set photos from the upcoming film reveal Andrea Riseborough (known for her roles in Possessor, Oblivion, and Black Mirror) looking incredibly eerie as the Ghost of Christmas Past. She’s covered in pale white makeup, including her skin, hair, and even special contacts, and wears a flowing white Victorian dress to complete the ghostly look. The film, Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, is directed by Ti West, the horror director behind House of the Devil and the Pearl trilogy, so audiences can anticipate a much darker and more frightening version of the classic Scrooge story.

Paramount Pictures and Green Bean Pictures are producing the film, which stars Tramell Tillman (known from Severance), Ian McKellen (Avengers: Doomsday), Rupert Grint (Servant), Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games), and other talented actors. Currently, the movie, titled Ebenezer, is scheduled to be released on November 13th, 2026, making it a perfect holiday film for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
