Fans are eagerly awaiting the next part of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run. The long-awaited anime adaptation of the cross-country race, featuring characters like Johnny Joestar and Gyro Zeppelli, began streaming earlier this year with one episode. However, Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for the second episode yet, leaving fans anxious to continue the story and return to the world created by Hirohiko Araki.
Axe Body Spray recently posted a funny, yet slightly unsettling, video on Instagram that looks like a hostage situation. They’re jokingly demanding that Netflix release the second episode of Steel Ball Run. Fans have been passionately asking for the anime’s return since the first episode aired, and many have been sharing a distorted image of the character Johnny Joestar online. Axe jumped on the hype by creating a fake line of their body spray featuring this same image on the cans. Netflix hasn’t officially responded, but the excitement for the return of Johnny and Gyro is clearly building.
The Steel Ball Run’s Release Schedule Explained
During Anime Japan, David Production announced that the next part of the anime will be coming to Netflix in 2026. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, they haven’t yet said exactly which part of the story it will cover. It looks like the Steel Ball Run arc will be released in sections, potentially with multiple episodes dropping at the same time. Because this part of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure manga is very long, it could take several years before we see the complete story of Johnny on screen.
The director of the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime, Toshiyuki Kato, recently explained why it’s taking so long to produce the next season. He mentioned that a particular part of the story is proving challenging to animate, specifically because it features a large number of horses. Kato believes this sequence would have been impossible to create during earlier seasons like Phantom Blood, Battle Tendency, or Stardust Crusaders. He says they’ve only recently developed the technology and techniques to even consider animating it, and they even created a short prototype of around twenty scenes to test their approach.
