Although many fans expected Jon Bernthal to reprise his role as the violent vigilante Punisher in the second season of , that likely won’t happen. Instead, Bernthal is set to continue playing Frank Castle within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’ll appear in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day with Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo, and is also scheduled for a solo Marvel Spotlight special in 2026. For the time being, it looks like his scenes with Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will be limited.
Jon Bernthal returning as the Punisher was exciting news for fans. He’s a popular, gritty character from Marvel comics, and many who enjoyed the Marvel shows on Netflix had been hoping to see him in the Daredevil: Born Again series. While a scene after the credits of the first season hinted at his return, Marvel Studios has now clarified that won’t happen in Born Again itself. Instead, Sana Amanat, an executive producer on Born Again, told Empire magazine that the post-credits scene actually sets up a separate special featuring Bernthal’s Punisher.
The Old Netflix Gang Is Almost Back Together in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2

It’s logical that Frank’s story begins separately from the events unfolding in Born Again. Although they might cross paths again, Frank was intentionally keeping a low profile before Matt discovered him in Season 1. It wouldn’t be surprising if, while trying to escape Kingpin, he’d want to avoid getting immediately caught up in another conflict. While details about Frank’s upcoming story are still unclear, it will probably connect to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, especially considering his significant part in the recent major film.
The second season of Daredevil: Born Again has a few surprises in store, including the return of Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter. Fans have been hoping to see the superpowered private investigator back for years, and Ritter is excited to reprise her role and join the new season.
Ritter recently shared that keeping her return under wraps for two years felt like “torture.” She was talking about coming back earlier this year.
It was incredibly difficult keeping this a secret for almost two years. The project had been discussed and developed for so long, and I really had to hold back my excitement until the Marvel upfronts. When the announcement finally came, it was such a relief! I kept telling myself that if the news leaked, it wouldn’t be my fault – I’d done everything I could to stay quiet. It’s a really special and exciting project, and I’m so grateful to be working with such an amazing team.
Rumors suggest Mike Coulter might reprise his role as Luke Cage, and Iron Fist could also return. This would reunite the original Netflix Defenders team after more than five years. Although plans can change, with Daredevil scheduled to release a new season annually, it’s likely we’ll see Frank Castle team up with them again in the future.
