Jonas Brothers Detail “Bizarre” Interest in Their Sex Lives as Teens

The Jonas Brothers are still surprised and confused by the intense public interest in their personal lives when they were younger.

Looking back at the beginning of their careers, Joe and Nick Jonas admitted a lot of the public’s interest wasn’t about their music. They were well-known for wearing purity rings – a public commitment to remain abstinent until marriage – and that’s what many people focused on, along with brother Kevin.

Joe, 36, recently told Variety that he found the amount of attention paid to his teenage sexual experiences to be strange.

You know, as someone who follows these things, I’ve been thinking about the past media focus on the brothers’ personal lives, and honestly, it really feels inappropriate when I look back at it. It was a different era, though – something that wouldn’t fly today, thankfully. We’ve definitely evolved in how we discuss these things.

As a lifestyle observer, I always find it fascinating to look back at how these stars navigated young love! While Kevin found Danielle back in 2007 and they’ve been going strong ever since, his brothers, Nick and Joe, were definitely enjoying their time with some very popular faces. Joe dated Taylor Swift for a bit in 2008, and later, Demi Lovato in 2010, when they were both starring in Camp Rock. And Nick? He had quite a run with Disney Channel stars like Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez between 2006 and 2010. It was a really fun time for them all!

According to the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star, the intense attention the brothers received was typical for that era, but wouldn’t be tolerated now.

He admitted it was a strange period, but if their efforts – even if it was just a small contribution to helping young people – ultimately made a difference, he felt it was worthwhile. “But yeah, it was a bizarre time.”

Over a decade after that moment, Nick—who later married Priyanka Chopra in 2018—revealed the advice he’d give to himself and his siblings when they were younger.

He said he’d advise young stars to not put so much pressure on themselves. He explained that growing up while working with Disney, and having a mostly teenage fanbase, created a lot of expectation to be perfect role models. He remembers a time when they would have welcomed that pressure, wanting to be seen as ‘good guys.’

Looking back, if I could talk to my 13-year-old self now, at 33, I’d tell him to relax and just enjoy being a kid. There’s no need to try to take on too much responsibility – it’s okay to simply grow up and experience life.

They are so excited to be there!

Oh my gosh, the Jonas Brothers are killing it! After all their amazing songs topping the charts, they just went to Six Flags Magic Mountain to celebrate – and I’m SO jealous! They totally deserve all the fun and success, and I’m living for this moment!

The Jonas Brothers performed alongside Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus at the City of Hope Benefit Concert held at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Our little guys are all grown up!

The group has really come into their own – they’ve moved past looking like they’re just pretending! They received their first Grammy nomination for Best New Artist, but Adele took home the award.

Nick apparently didn’t get the message to wear black, but you gotta love him anyway!

The brothers looked like they stepped right out of a fashion spread in Esquire magazine! (Photo shows them at the Concert For Hope in Universal City, California.)

The band split up, and it was a difficult time for everyone involved. Nick Jonas explained on Watch What Happens Live that the conversation about ending the group was really tough and caused some family upset, especially since they were just about to start a tour. Thankfully, everyone is doing well now. He’s happy about his niece, his brother has a family, and Joe’s band, DNCE, is successful. Nick believes the experience ultimately helped them all grow, even though it was challenging at first.

The brothers may have broken up as a musical trio, but they’re still family! Come on.

The Jonas Brothers—Nick, Joe, and Kevin—are back with a new song called “Sucker.” They recently performed it with James Corden during a segment of Carpool Karaoke.

Okay, so I’ve been following the Jonas Brothers’ tour closely, and it’s adorable! They’re literally using Post-it Notes to plan out their setlist every night! Can you even imagine? It’s how they ‘Think Loud’ – figuring out the perfect show for all of us, even with every concert completely sold out! It’s just…the cutest, most dedicated thing ever, honestly.
