This article contains some small spoilers for the musical Wicked. You’ve been warned!
The makeup and prosthetics in the upcoming Wicked: For Good movie are extensive and fascinating. However, Jonathan Bailey, recently named People’s Sexiest Man Alive, gave a surprisingly blunt response when asked about how they affected him. He’s not the only one with a strong opinion about Fiyero’s story in the 2025 film.
Jonathan Bailey’s NSFW Response To The Scarecrow’s Look
Remember when I mentioned Jonathan Bailey gave a somewhat suggestive answer about how his character, Fiyero, transforms into the Scarecrow? I wasn’t being entirely truthful. His description was actually quite explicit! He told Entertainment Weekly that the process, especially when he wasn’t in full costume, was a truly difficult experience.
Without the straw hair, I just looked like a big wheat penis.
I can’t look at Wicked: For Good the same way again after hearing about the visual effects process! Apparently, a key element ended up sounding like “big wheat penis” – a phrase the team struggled with for a long time before finalizing the film’s appearance. Bailey thinks the final result is definitely memorable, especially with the straw detail, but it seems creating that scene was quite awkward for everyone involved.
They did a ton of makeup tests, and everything you saw was genuine. Underneath all the prosthetics, there was a complex cooling system built in to keep me comfortable.
It’s not unusual for actors in large-scale movies to require cooling systems while filming – often referred to as ‘plumbing.’ This is especially true for those in superhero roles. Paul Bettany, who played Vision, famously used a cooling tube system during his scenes. Hopefully, the actor Bailey had the chance to use the restroom, something other superhero actors haven’t always been able to do.
The Internet Has A Very Different Take On What Bailey Looks Like With The Makeup
Right after the movie Wicked: For Good came out, people online started making jokes comparing Bailey’s character, the Scarecrow, to actor Ryan Reynolds – and often specifically to his Deadpool role.

It’s common online for people to come together and share similar ideas. I’ve collected some of those shared thoughts from around the internet, and included them below – with a little editing for clarity.
- OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONNNEEE!!! 🤣👏🏼
- Like I immediately snapped out of the movie because i was like WHY DOES HE LOOK LIKE RYAN REYNOLDS?
- We all thought it!
- I’M SO GLAD WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE
- @JennySDCC Things you’ll only understand after seeing Wicked: For Good… Ryan Reynolds????!?
- @daysevermore Went to Wicked For Good and couldn’t stop laughing at Fiyero. He genuinely looked like potato sack Ryan Reynolds.
I doubt Jonathan Bailey meant to offend Ryan Reynolds with his remark about a “wheat penis,” but the two will always be linked in my head. Sorry to Ryan Reynolds, but it’s good to see he’s not being compared to a Shar Pei for once!
